Helias was the winner of the 3rd place game over Lafayette and host school Parkview won the consolation bracket, knocking off Newcastle (OK). Here is a list of some of the top underclassmen to keep on your radar as the season continues to progress:
6’2 Jr Anton Brookshire – Kickapoo
The junior guard has already hauled in an offer list that includes UW-Milwaukee, Missouri State, Tennessee State, and UNLV and is one of the most exciting prospects in Southwest Missouri. He has Kickapoo highly ranked and although he didn’t appear 100% at times over the weekend, it was clear that he was the most gifted talent on the court. Big time shooter and playmaker. High IQ and anticipation. Gets it done on both ends of the floor.
6’7 Jr Tamaury Releford – Fayetteville
The big man in the middle for Fayetteville has trimmed down and added some muscle and strength. He continues to terrorize opposing defenses on the glass and in the paint. Seals extremely hard, positions himself well, and has the footwork to get a quality look almost any time he gets a paint touch. The game has started to slow down for him, and he showed more patience and the ability to face-up with confidence and react accordingly. If he continues to boost his athleticism, his high level interest may start turning into high level offers.
6’5 Jr Michael Henneberry – Lafayette
He has several projectable attributes and is one that I plan to monitor throughout the season. I like his size and length on the wing, he moves well, and had some eye-popping flashes. The one that stood out the most was an impressive sequence against Kickapoo in which he stayed true against a euro-step, blocked the shot, took the ball coast to coast, and finished with a euro-step lay-in of his own.
6’7 Jr Trevon Brazile – Parkview
Trevon was definitely one of the biggest stockrisers who caught my eye numerous times. He is tall, long, athletic, and is developing a versatile skill-set. He has comfortable range out beyond the arc and is becoming a significant drive and kick threat. He can rip and go to the basket. He is also a freakish athlete, as evidenced by an emphatic put-back slam over the Fayetteville big man that sent shock waves through the gym. He is next in a long line of impressive players that have come through the Parkview program in recent years.
6’2 So Elijah Whitley – Parkview
Elijah was named to the All-Tournament team and for good reason. Although he is only a sophomore, he has ice water in his veins and doesn’t shy away from the clutch moments. He made big shot after big shot for Parkview in a hotly contested game against Fayetteville on Friday night. He was a sniper from three and does a very nice job of driving the lane and putting up floaters just over the reach of the defense.
6’5 Jr Aaron Franklin – Raytown
I came away very impressed with Aaron’s versatility. He has a college ready build, plus athleticism, and the skill to play nearly any position on the floor. Very good spot up shooter. Can handle the rock. Very impressive on the offensive glass. He lets the game come to him and doesn’t get himself in trouble by trying to do too much. Projects well at the next level.
