I believe that Millennium is the top team in the state. Sure they have two losses but those came to some of the best teams in the nation. Against in state teams, Millennium is undefeated and could easily remain that way through the regular season.
#2 Desert Vista 7-0 (6A)
Desert Vista has been on a roll this far into the season. They have one of the deepest and most talented teams in the state. I would love to see DV and Millennium square off.
#3 Skyline 7-1 (6A)
Skyline should be undefeated right now but their involvement in the brawl that happened a few weeks back led them to having to forfeit their game against Tolleson. Without that forfeit, I believe Skyline would be 8-0 and would be making a strong case for the #2 spot.
#4 Gilbert 7-1 (5A)
Gilbert has shown that they are still a top team despite losing their top two players from their state championship team last season. They are back and looking as strong as ever, beating some impressive teams along the way.
#5 Salpointe Catholic 8-0 (4A)
Salpointe has looked dominant and probably will continue that trend through 4A regular season. The only reason I have them at #5 if because of the talent of teams that they play. Continue this dominance and they’ll surely rise up in the rankings.
#6 Sunnyslope 7-1 (5A)
Slope is one of the biggest teams in the state in terms of height. I would bet that they have the most height in the AIA. Slope has looked solid and their win against Ironwood really shocked me/impressed me because Ironwood gave them trouble last year due to their speed. Very big win for them and they showed that they are dangerous.
#7 Ironwood 7-1 (5A)
As mentioned before, Slope beat Ironwood. That is definitely a great sign for Slope as Ironwood swept them last year. However, I think once Ironwood gets their 3 transfers back they will be right back in the mix and could easily defeat Slope. Only time will tell how could this team could be, especially once their transfers come back.
#8 St. Mary’s 5-0 (4A)
St. Mary’s comes in at #8 and could easily shake up the rankings tomorrow night as they take on Desert Vista. If they win that game, it will greatly shake up the all-state power rankings, as well as the 6A and 4A rankings. St. Mary’s has a lot of talent on their roster and so far have turned in a great season.
#9 Chandler 8-1 (6A)
Chandler is currently 8-1 and have beaten some solid teams as well as losing to Gilbert. Chandler looks to have great chemistry right now but I am worried for their future. Broady comes back soon and I think that has a chance to mess up their chemistry. Nothing against Broady personally but he does demand the ball a lot. That has the potential to mess up the chemistry going right now as they are being led by Carson Kelly and Mekhi Mason. I hope the transition is effortless and they continue their hot streak, as I believe they could be really special this season.
#10 Catalina Footihills 7-0 (4A)
Catalina Foothills rounds out the list at #10. It is kind of odd to see an undefeated team come in at the #10 spot but that just shows how deeply competitive this year is. There are a ton of great teams out there this season and I believe that Catalina Foothills is one of those teams.
