#1 Millennium (5A)
The Millennium Tigers comes in, once again, at the number 1 spot. I think you’d be very hard pressed to find a scout/writer that wouldn’t agree that Millennium is the top team in AZ right now. Absolutely loaded with talent and are playing a national schedule.
#2 Skyline (6A)
Skyline comes in at number 2 and as the top team in 6A. Skyline also has loads of talent and I believe they are my front runner for the 6A State Title.
#3 Desert Vista (6A)
DV is another very good team in 6A and I would love to see DV and Skyline play. Both squads have tremendous talent and we’ll have to see who comes out of that fight on top. As for right now, DV comes in at 3.
#4 Ironwood (5A)
Ironwood comes in at #4. The eagles have had a very solid 1-2 week run beating region rival, Sunnyslope, getting their 3 transfers back, and winning the Judy Dixon Tournament. Ironwood could seriously take a leap now that their squad is complete.
#5 Salpointe Catholic (4A)
Salpointe comes in at #5. While Salpointe is likely to run over anyone in 4A, I don’t believe they would fair too well against the teams listed above and that’s why you see them at the number 5 spot.
#6 Gilbert (5A)
Gilbert was originally higher on the list but I wanted to see how Skyline vs Gilbert played out. Unfortunately for Gilbert, they lost and that dropped them down a spot.
#7 Chandler (6A)
Chandler is a team much like Ironwood, where they have gotten some key transfers back and could be ridiculously scary going forward. I am very eager to see what they look like with all their players back. Chandler could be a team to watch out for.
#8 Catalina Foothills (4A)
Catalina Foothills comes in at #8. Much like the case for Salpointe, Catalina Foothills has run over everything in their way so far in 4A. However, I don’t think they have the firepower to beat some of the squads listed above them.
#9 St. Mary’s (4A)
St. Mary’s drops a bit, mainly due to dropping within their conference power rankings. Not really their fault, they have been playing well, but teams like Salpointe and Catalina are still undefeated. I think St. Mary’s could potentially jump in the rankings soon.
#10 Highland (6A)
Highland rounds out our final list of 2019! They make their debut after beating some impressive teams such as: Skyline, Gilbert, and Perry. The only reason they come in at 10 is because I still believer Skyline and Gilbert are the better team. However, if Highland keeps this up, they could rise quickly in the rankings.
