Leroy Walker (2020) | 6-5 WG | Cincinnati Taft
Walker was a menace for Taft, a real matchup problem for Richmond Heights. Got out and ran the transition, finishing everything around the hoop including a pretty euro-like finish. Also, shot the ball pretty well and didn’t force it by not settling from distance and getting to the hoop. Started and finished a couple good runs for Taft, nice two way showing.
Jevontae Jones (2020) | 6-5 WG | Richmond Heights
Jones was an athletic ball handler for Heights that could go! Was impressed with his intensity on both ends as well as him turning defense into offense. Finished through contact around the rim as well as getting to the free throw line. A solid showing for Jones, despite the loss.
Isaac Settles (2021) | 6-5 WG | Thomas Worthington
Settles was a secondary scoring option for the Cardinals that played pretty well. Got to the hoop off the dribble and either finished or was fouled. Knocks down his free throws at a good clip as well. Handled the rock well to give Thomas another ball handler when Sullinger is out of the game. The junior did majority of his scoring near the rim, or off stop-and-pops. Versatile defender.
Jarius Jones (2021) | 6-4 WG | Gahanna
On many other teams Jones may be that guy. But, one problem is Sean Jones plays for Gahanna. Jarius was a nice complementary player to Sean, taking some of the scoring load and doing other things such as rebounding from the guard three position. Was impressed with the junior when he had control of the ball, knew when to drive to the hole or to give it up. Finished well around the rim, specifically baseline through contact. When he didn’t convert he ended up at the free throw line where he was able to get to. Interested to watch Jarius more this season. Has what it takes to be a versatile defender.
JJ Simmons (2022) | 5-10 PG | Columbus Beechcroft
Simmons had a tough matchup but held his own Saturday night. Simmons is athletic and quick, used it to his advantage staying with opposing ball handlers the length of the court at times. The sophomore worked best off the bounce, got in the lane and put up some high quality shots at times. Led the way for his team with 15 points, the Cougars will heavily rely on him this season. Poised ball handler.
