Davison and the Calhoun Tigers were in Tuscaloosa to take on a talented Central Falcons team. The whole city was on hand to watch the showdown. The University of Alabama coaching staff even rushed back to town from their road game to watch the showdown. It was a fast paced back and forth game but the Falcons came out on top winning the game by 3 points(61-58). Here are some players that stood out for their respective teams.
JD Davison, CG (Calhoun)
The #1 ranked player in Alabama’s class of 2021 is probably the most intriguing prospect from Alabama since Eric Bledsoe. Maybe the most athletic guard i ever seen. He had about seven dunks in the game and each time it looked like he was going to jump inside the rim, literally. To the surprise of many, he has a nice offensive game. He is able to handle the ball in tight knit situations. Has great footwork. Uses his size and jumping ability to take smaller guards to the block and demand double teams. His pull-up jumper is almost unblock-able. He can make the three but needs more work for it to become more consistent. A great passer in the open court and a willing passer in half court situations. He is also an elite slasher and has an array of finishes around the rim. Davison will only get better, and look for him to not only remain on top of the rankings in Alabama but to also climb in the national rankings.
Tavion Goode, SG (Central)
The 6’4″ junior shooting guard is one of the hidden gems from the west Alabama area. He was definitely one of the bright spots in the game. Has a live body and is very active on both ends of the court. Possesses a nice offensive package. Can shoot the 3 consistently, and is also very comfortable at putting the ball on the floor and attacking the basket. Above average athletic ability. Crashes the offensive glass and tries to get tip dunks whenever he can. Has a nice floater in the lane. Needs to work on his pull-up jumper to keep from getting body control fouls. He is very dynamic in the open court and needs to learn to control his pace to maximize his output while on the court. Overall, i was very impressed with his all-around game and look for his stock to rise in the near future. Definitely a player that has all the tools to play at the NCAA D-1 level.
TJ Jones, F/C (Central)
The senior big man was a force in the paint and was the deciding factor in the win-loss column. Showed the ability to get up and down the floor and keep up with with the fast-paced guard dominated game. Has solid footwork in the paint but needs to develop a baby hook over the left and right shoulder further away from the basket. Uses his body very well to seal his opponents for easy layups. Can move well for a player his size. Needs to become more of a presence in the paint on the defensive end. The senior forward is uncommitted and is looking to play at the collegiate level next year.
Demareus Cheatham, SG (Calhoun)
The 5’11” senior guard was a spark plug for his team playing with continuous energy and effort. At his size, he doesn’t handle the ball much but when he did he seemed somewhat comfortable. A very good 3 point shooter. Lit up the Falcons going 6-10 from beyond the arc. Moves well without the ball and is definitely one of the best shooters in his class.
