Millennium once again comes in at #1 in 5A. I fully expect Millennium to remain the top seed throughout the season but you never know. Tonight, Sunnyslope takes on Millennium at Millennium HS. That game could shake things up if Sunnyslope takes home the W. Only time will tell!
Key Players:
DaRon Holmes 6’9 2021 F
Justus Jackson 6’0 2021 G
Robby Devries 6’4 2020 G
#2 Sunnyslope 8-1
Slopes comes in at #2 in the updated rankings. Slope’s most impressive win came against Ironwood. This week is huge for Slope as they take on Millennium and Ironwood. They control their own destiny in terms of rankings this week. If Slope wins both these games or even just beats Millennium, they could drastically shake things up.
Key Players:
Carson Basham 6’10 2021 F
Grady Lewis 6’8 2021 F
Xzavier Lino 6’6 2020 G
#3 Ironwood 9-1
Ironwood has been on an absolute tear! They have been blowing out teams left and right. Their only loss came from Sunnyslope. Ironwood has a chance to avenge that loss this week, as they take on Slope once again. If Ironwood beats Slope, they will jump up a spot. Once Ironwood gets their transfers back, they could really make a run at 5A.
Key Players:
Dominic Gonzalez 6’3 2020 G
JJ White 6’3 2021 G
Bailon Black 6’4 2021 G
#4 Gilbert 7-1
Gilbert comes in at the #4 spot. It is crazy to see a team as talented as Gilbert in the #4 spot. That just shows how competitive 5A is this year! There are a ton of good teams and Gilbert is definitely one of them. They had an unexpected loss to Highland, which drops their ranking a bit in my mind.
Key Players:
Brycen Long 6’3 2020 G
Paul Maldonado 6’1 2020 G
#5 Cactus Shadows 9-1
Cactus Shadows has gotten off to a very strong start so far this season. Their only loss came against Ironwood, one of the best teams in state. Cactus Shadows just hasn’t beaten some of the more talented teams that the other squads on the list have.
Key Players:
Nate Williams 6’3 2021 F
Nolan Hokanson 6’5 2020 F
