Unless you’re Sierra Canyon, can any team claim to have enough depth? With Noah Taitz sidelined, Will McClendon suffering from flu-like symptoms and without any of their original bigs, the Gales were forced to use unique lineups throughout the night. As of right now, it looks like a 6 man rotation for them. In order to get through a field as talented as the LSI, they are going to need someone to step up.
(2) Who Is The Player Set To Take Advantage Of The Extra Minutes?
Mo Khalaf. Last night Mo showed that he can be an impactful force on the defensive end. He played with tremendous effort. A lot of what he brought won’t show up on the stat sheet, however, he had a ton of deflections and harrassed ballhandlers into mistakes. Gorman still has 3 capable scorers in Wilkinson, Collins, and McClendon so they don’t necessarily need Khalaf to score. They will need him to continue to have an impact on the defensive end, and if he does manage to turn a couple of steals into easy offense that wouldn’t hurt.
(3) Was Jack Chulmak Perfect?
Technically no. He did miss one shot. Besides from that miss, the senior sniper was masterful all game. He finished with 19 going 8-9 from the field along with 6 rebounds. Chulmak sparked LO to a first-half lead with his timely shooting.
(4) What Stat Jumps Out At You The Most?
Bishop Gorman’s 3 point shooting. Zaon Collins was the only Gael to make a 3. The rest of the team went a combines 0-12 from behind the arc. The irony of this is that Collins isn’t known for his shooting. This can be looked at a couple of ways. Obviously shooting 17% from behind the 3 point line is not good, however they still managed to get a win, and they did it without any of their primary weapons knocking down shots. As a side note, this may be the game that ignites Collins’ 3 point shooting, if that happens watch out.
(5) Bishop Gorman Defeats Eastside Catholic If?
If their big three of Collins, Wilkinson, and McClendon are clicking. McClendon is one of the toughest players in the country, but the flu is still the flu, and Gorman loves to get up and down. Collins is going to have to have another big game, and Wilkinson who is quietly putting together a monster season is going to have to take his game to an even higher level. Eastside Catholic is a very good team, so the Gales can’t afford to get out to a slow start if they want to have an opportunity to advance.
