Devon Lizana | 6’1 G | Salmen High School 2021 | Slidell, La
Devon Lizana has shown he is ready for the next level. Averaging a bit over 20 points per game currently this season is very impressive considering there’s nothing flashy about his game. His high basketball IQ has him either in the right spot at the right time or has him seeing the next play before it develops, thus putting his teammates in great positions to score. The game moves at Lizana’s speed when the ball is in his hands, easily beating double teams, or making the right passes out of them. When the ball isn’t in his hands, he finds the open spot, making the defense pay for leaving him open as he’s able to knock down the three efficiently. The “6’1” guard is definitely someone you should have you eyes on as the season goes on.
Dominique Perry | 5’8 PG | Slidell High School 2020 | Slidell, LA
Dominique, or DPerry as he’s called, may be the shortest on this list at “5’8”, but his game makes up for the height difference. A pass-first guard, Perry’s court vision and ability to distribute the ball is a sight to see. His favorites are the full court bombs that would remind you of Lonzo Ball while he was playing at Chino Hills. The passes are rarely off target as he places them in each of his teammates strong spots, whether that be floating right above the defenders hands to his big man in transition, or after driving and dishing a one hand pass to a shooter in the corner. Along side the great vision is Perry’s ability to finish at the rim. This is done by both his ability to play the pick and roll game exceptionally well, and his ball handling being very tight. Just when you think keeping him out the paint will contain him, he’ll show you that his jump shot isn’t too shabby either.
Reggie Gause | 6’4 G | Covington High School 2020 | Covington, La
Covington’s “Long Ball Launcher” has made himself known for his high skill of shooting the basketball. The “6’4” lefty can shoot it from a great distance at a very high percentage. His length allows him to finish at the rim easily as well. Another fundamental player, you will rarely see the flashy play from Gause. What you will see though, is great decision making, and even greater shooting. Not only can Gause create his own shot but can create shots for others which opens up from his ability to shoot from college range. If you want to watch a sniper in person, mark a Covington game on your calendar.
Bill Leahy IV | 5’10 G | Northlake Christian 2020 | Covington, La
Upon first glance at Bill Leahy you will notice his build. Although standing under 6 foot, he has the build to force his will upon his defender. The surprising factor that many don’t know about Leahy is that he can jump out the gym. A 40′ inch vertical not only allows Leahy to rise above defenders on his jumpshot, but also as he takes off to finish at the rim. As if he’s floating, Leahy seems to have mastered finishing with contact from guards to centers alike. One aspect his game that is seemingly a forgotten art is the mid range game. Leahy utilizes his jumping ability to shoot not only jumpers, but floaters and runners, which are vital on the next level. Leahy will be a pleasure to watch down the stretch this season.
Jaden Williams | 6’0 PG | Salmen High School 2020 | Slidell, La
The second part of the dynamic duo that Salmen High has currently is Jaden Williams. The “6’0” guard is a challenging assignment for any defender. His ball handling gives him the ability to get anywhere on the floor. A creative finisher, Williams has an assortment of off hand finishes around the rim, that makes him unpredictable when driving to the goal. The biggest stand out of his game is his ability to make big shots down the stretch. Williams seems to always step up in close game situations to take the go ahead shot, almost always coming through when a bucket is needed. From putting away a game with free throws, or knocking down dagger threes, Jaden is no stranger to the big shots or the pressure that comes with them.
