Continue ReadingThe Legacy Tip-Off classic began yesterday. The event is in its 9th year and features 18 teams from 4 different states. One of the key match ups for night one was Las Vegas’ own Silverado Skyhawks vs Dysart Demons (El Mirage Arizona). Here are some key takeaways from this match up.
(1) IS SILVERADO A DEEPER TEAM THAN THEY WERE A YEAR AGO?
Absolutely! I for one feel like Silverado is one of the deeper most talented teams in all of the state. My biggest observation from last nights game was Silverado star player Martell Williams being relatively quiet. Williams is a player that can score 25+ a night at will and in Silverado’s 76-66 win Williams had 2 points on one attempt. Which shows me Silverado can win games in other ways. Not many teams can say that!
(2) SILVERADO HAS ONE OF THE BETTER FRESHMAN CLASSES IN THE STATE
One of the key reasons that Silverado is a stronger team this year was the addition of two fantastic freshman in Osiris Grady and Darnell Marcus Fizer Jr. Grady yesterday was a man on fire with 17 points 11 rebounds 2 steals and 2 assists. Grady showed why he is such a highly ranked and touted prospect he also showed range that we already knew existed. Grady provided plenty of rim protection, interior defense, and rebounding with the 11 rebounds he had. Grady also showed range as a shooter as he converted 70% of his shots 7-10 ain’t bad at all. As far as Fizer he added 12 points and plenty of range on defense. Fizer and Grady will be a great 1-2 punch for years to come.
(3) IS LONDON COLEMAN SILVERADO’S NEW GO TO PLAYER?
Through the first part of Silverado’s season it sure looks like it! What I love about Coleman’s game so far is he knows he’s a senior so he’s leaving it all out on the floor. So far this season Coleman is averaging 20 points 4 rebounds 2.5 steals. In all of Silverado’s games thus far Coleman has led the team in points and steals. He was always looked at as the most underrated player on Silverado now in his senior year it seems like he is moving out of the shadows and showing his star power. It has to feel good to know for Silverado you have multiple options that can go for 20 and have big performances. At the early part Coleman is that guy.
(4) WHO IS RILEY FOURNETTE?
Riley Fornerette 6’0 PG Dysart 2021 (#77 PHA 2021) – Fornerette is one of the best overall guards in the tournament. He showed range, along with his premier play making ability. Against Silverado he led his team with 19 points 7 assists 6 rebounds 2 steals. The young man showed star quality and he knows when to take over and defer.
(5) HOW DID SILVERADO WIN THE GAME?
Silverado’s depth was too much to handle. They controlled the pace and rhythm most of the game. Overall, when you can go nine deep and have Martell Willams have a quiet night for what he usually does and still have other guys around him do the small things to win games. It equaled up to a Silverado victory. This is a team that can make a lot of noise this year. They are loaded with talent. They have played in a number of big games so they are battle tested. Experience and a huge game by London Coleman and Osiris Grady and solid contributions from the team on down was the formula for Silverado in this one.
