Cade Marlow of Skyline started off the scoring by hitting a 3 pointer. But shortly after Jett Shelley answered with a 3 pointer of his own. At halftime Blackfoot lead Skyline 25-16. In the second half Blackfoot slowly pulled away beating Skyline 57-35.
WHAT IS BLACKFOOTS CEILING?
With seven seniors this year, Blackfoot has the depth to compete with any 4A team in the state. Reece Robinson, Jett Shelley, and Jayden Wistisen all return as starters this year on the varsity. Most of the varsity players have significant experience on the varsity level. Senior Brayden Wright was solid all night scoring 11 points for the Broncos. Candon Dahle and Carter Layton are two of the newer members of the varsity but you wouldn’t know it from their performance. Both contributed big minutes with Dahle scoring 6 points and Layton scoring 11 points.
Skyline@BlackfootIS THERE A BETTER BACKCOURT TANDEM THAN JETT SHELLEY AND REECE ROBINSON?
It would be hard to find a backcourt in the state of Idaho that is better then Robinson and Shelley. Both handle the ball very good and see the court very well. Robinson had some great assists in tonight’s game. Both players are very quick and can apply a lot of pressure to opposing guards. Both are good shooters from outside and are able to get to the rim. Shelley knocked down a couple 3’s early in the game to give Blackfoot some momentum early on. Teams will struggle to slow these two down.
WHERE DOES SKYLINE GO FROM HERE?
Skyline missed the leadership of Cruz Taylor. Taylor is recovering from a dislocated elbow he got during the football season. He has been playing on the varsity since his freshman year and with graduating so many players last year, his experience is needed. Skyline is inexperienced but has the talent to be competitive and could cause some problems for teams later in the year.
HOW GOOD IS JAYDEN WISTISEN?
Jayden is one of those kids who just works his tail off all game. He is a scrappy player who isn’t afraid to get on the floor for a lose ball or bang around under the basket for rebounds. Jayden got a steal and was able to break away and get a dunk on the other end which got the student body on their feet!
WHO WILL EMERGE AS THE LEADER FOR SKYLINE?
Skyline has a lot of talent that just needs experience. Junior Raleigh Shippen was able to get to the rim and draw some fouls. He lead all scores with 12 points. Junior Cade Marlow was always around the ball. He worked hard on both ends of the court and ended up with 7 points. Also Juniors Christean Thomas who had 6 points, Eli Ames who had 2 points, and Jace Eams who had 2 points, played a lot of minutes. Sophomores Parker Kucera and Issac Farnsworth also got playing time.
