The Wildcats fought hard. Big fan of coach Wilson’s plan. They don’t overwhelm you with talent but his teams will be prepared and play hard. I thought Kentrell Wallace showed that he’s capable of being the team’s Alpha, and several young players played well and showed promise. Las Vegas currently sits at 1-2 however their two losses have come to teams with a combined record of 7-1.
(2) What Level Player Is Dayshawn Wiley?
I will have an All – Underrated team list coming out, and Wiley is going on it. It’s about time to start seriously consider Wiley as a D1 prospect. He’s a sneaky good athlete, with the ability to seemingly go up as high as he needs to. He provides rim protection from a perimeter position and has the ability to lock down both backcourt spots. A very good spot-up shooter, whose best strength is actually getting to the rim. I’m not quite sure what there’s not to like about him. I can’t wait to see him again this week in the So – Cal/ LV showdown.
(3) Is There A Better Floor General In The State Than Milos Uzan?
I’m starting to think no. Uzan plays with a quiet confidence that permeates throughout the team. I could rave about his skill set, great handle, excellent passer, with improving 1 on 1 skills. However, to me his best skill is the machine between his ears. Ultimate neck up guy, that just keeps his team in rhythm. Has an assassins focus about him, which at times makes it difficult to tell if a good or bad play has taken place.
(4) What Underclassmen Stood Out?
This game featured several talented underclassmen. Milos Uzan 2022, Tavionte Jackson 2022, Jamir Stephens 2022 all left their imprint on the game. However, the underclassmen that really caught my eye was freshmen Earnest “TJ” Brown. He played with the poise of a player well beyond his years. He also showed the ability to knock down open 3’s and finish in transition over length. Obviously a small sample size, but Brown may be looking at a bright future.
(5) Does Desert Pines Have What It Takes To Win It All?
Not quite sure. I’ll learn a lot more about this team this week when they travel to So Cal to play Etiwanda. They never could separate from a scrappy Las Vegas team, but it also was their first game of the season. Love Milos and Wiley, and Jamir Stephens is coming along nicely. Ultimately it looks like their ceiling lies with the play of rinsing junior Anthony Swift. He was good on Monday, and at times looked like the most dominating player on the floor. Swift sat out all of last season, so he doesn’t even have his game legs under him. He finished with an easy 14, 7 and 4, in a game DP won by 10. My question is, will this become the norm for him, or will it be considered a bad game. If it’s the latter, then DP is going to be a tough out.
