Indiana is full of great teams and talented players thus giving the fans incredible matchups every week. Join me, Kyler Staley, every Monday during the season as I preview the 3 Players, 3 Teams, and 3 Matchups to watch for that coming week. Are you ready? Let’s get started!
3 Players
AJ Dancler – 6’2 2023 PG – Southport: Dancler plays with a lot of confidence and makes great passes that will lead to scoring. His style of play is really smooth and that allows him to play with such composure. If you did not know before watching him, you would think that you were seeing a junior or senior play. He has a nice floater to his game and can shoot the three really well. He and Southport will take on Bloomington North and Mount Vernon Fortville this week.
Kooper Jacobi – 6’6 2021 PF – Silver Creek: What a Saturday Kooper Jacobi just had! He was on fire and dropped 26 points in the first half against Blackhawk before finishing the game with 36. I love watching this junior play because it just looks like the game comes easy to him. He might have been the best player in high school last weekend and I think he will continue his excellent play. He and Silver Creek take on Jeffersonville on Friday and Bedford North Lawrence on Saturday.
Pierce Thomas – 6’5 2021 SG – Brownsburg: .Thomas is without question the most athletic 2021 prospect in the state of Indiana. He has a complete package of dunking, driving, and shooting that most players just do not have. This past Saturday he was 2 rebounds away from having a double-double, to go along with his 17 points, and I think he will get one at least once this week. Him and Brownsburg will take on Avon and Ben Davis this weekend.
3 Teams
Bedford North Lawrence (4A): BNL is on a hot streak right now having won three straight. Brayton Bailey has been a scoring machine, Jackson Miracle has stepped up, and Kooper Staley finally had the breakout game he needed this past Saturday having dropped 17 points and splashing 4 threes against South Knox. They have made a few changes to their starting lineup and it has proven to work. This week will challenge them as they travel to Madison on Friday and host Silver Creek on Saturday. If they can knock off even one of those teams, it might prove that this team is legit.
Fort Wayne Blackhawk (2A): The Braves just came off a tough loss to Silver Creek at the Forum Tip-Off Classic this past weekend. Caleb Furst had a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds and there are no signs of him stopping his dominate play. They have two game at home this week with Fort Wayne Canterbury and a Trey Galloway-less Culver Academy. Look for this team to take care of business this week before the Christmas Holiday.
Northeast Dubios (1A): The Jeeps are riding a 4 game winning streak right now having just beat Orleans on the road this past Saturday. I have them as a team to watch because I am curios about their matchup on Saturday as they take on Forrest Park, who is also on a 4 game winning streak at the moment. But I think with the stud trio of Ethan Ziegler, Reece Bauer, and Nick Lueken, their winning streak will stay active.
3 Matchups
Bloomington South (4A) at Floyd Central (4A) – Dec. 21, 7:30 pm: This is going to be a fun and intense 4A matchup as both of these teams are on fire right now. Both the Highlanders and Panthers play so good as unit that the winner of this game will be whoever’s team stays together. The thought of the matchups of Grant Gohmann and Jake Heidbreder going up against Anthony Leal and James Bomba should make fans hyped. This could be the best game of the week.
Lebanon (3A) at Danville (3A) – Dec. 20 , 8 pm: Like the game above, both of these teams are real hot right now. Lebanon started off 0-2 but has won 4 straight and Daniville is currently undefeated. I would say both of these teams are in the middle of the pack when it comes to 3A teams, however. Both of these squads have a good core of players like Lebanon’s Luke Ferrell and Carson Burtron and Danville’s Dillon Ware and Sam Comer. Which team’s hot streak will come to a halt? Only way to find out is to keep an eye on this one.
Rossville (2A) at Lafayette Central Catholic (1A) – Dec. 21, 7:30 pm: Lafayette Central Catholic has not had the start of the season like we at PrepHoops Indiana thought they would have. Yes they have a winning record (3-2) but it is not the record one of the preseason’s favorites to win 1A State should have right now. Rossville has the same record but has had really only one game they have played bad in. This is coming in “must win” territory for Central Catholic on Saturday. Look for them to beat a Rossville team that should not be taken lightly.
