Word of God would take the early lead with Village closing in to cut the gap to six at halftime. Once the second half began, WOG would go on a run once again and take a lead but Village would continue to fight, knocking some big time three point shots to stay in the game and eventually score a bucket to give them the final lead 88-87.
VCA Senior Guard Zavian Mclean: The Columbia commit showed why so many D1 programs were looking to get a commitment from him over the past few months as he was impressive from start to finish. He’s constantly on the attack, and scored all of his 24 points in the first three quarters, making smart passes to whoever the hot man was as time went on.
WOGCA Senior Forward Isaiah Todd: Although he dealt with foul trouble throughout the day, he put together a solid showing and quite a few impressive performances. To see a player of his height with such a smooth game and ability to play on the perimeter is something special, Todd would finish with 17 points on the night.
VCA Senior Guard Justin Thomas: Finished with 20 points on the night, and is a player that D1 programs should be dropping in to see more often. He doesn’t settle for the outside shot and does a nice job of picking his spots offensively while being able to guard multiple spots defensively.
WOGCA Sophomore Guard Po’Boigh King: You have to add his name in the debate for top three point shooters in the state and he is automatic from downtown and has outstanding range on his shot. He missed a few early shots but caught fire as the game went on and was a very important part of the WOG offense and he finished with 23 points.
VCA Sophomore Guard Jalen Higgins: Another prospect to keep a close eye on, he’s coming into his own slowly but surely. He shoots the ball with confidence and was efficient with the shot opportunities that he got, including some clutch three point shots down the stretch.
WOGCA Sophomore Guard Khalil Marshall: We are seeing him take on more of a facilitator role this season and was solid throughout scoring and finding teammates. His ball handling skills are outstanding and once he puts it all together he has a chance to be a very special prospect.
VCA Sophomore Guard Amir Crawford: In his first year of playing on the varsity squad, he stepped up big, knocking down multiple treys to help VCA go on a run. Does a nice job of moving without the ball and taking smart shots, he finished with 11 points, 3 made treys.
WOGCA Senior Saiquone Harris: Hutch CC got a good one in Harris, he has plenty of potential and already is showing flashes of how good he can be. At 6’6 with some wing skills, you can see why D1 programs are intrigued, he didn’t get a ton of touches but made the most out of the touches he got.
WOGCA Senior Guard Chase Forte: One of the more efficient players on the day, he didn’t get a ton of touches but was very productive with what he got. He does a nice job of attacking the basket, as well as pulling up and knocking down shots when the opportunity presents itself.
VCA Sophomore Guard Zy Mclean: Early on he was aggressive and helped provide some much needed offense for VCA. You can see that his confidence is growing and he will be ready when his number is called on this season, he finished with 8 points on the night.
