Jemaine Seagears does an excellent job of creating an organized, efficient, competitive environment. The camp begins with skill work and concludes with an all-star game of the top 20 players in attendance. It’s one of the easiest camps to evaluate because the camp attracts the top players in the area and he makes sure competition is always at its highest. In this article, PH takes a look at some of the top wings from the WODE Freshmen/Sophomore camp.
Sebastian Mack 6’1 Durango 2023 (#1 PHN 2023) – If you don’t already know the name, learn it. Mack is one of the elite scorers in the C/O 2023. Unless the world ends, or he gets injured he will be a high major player, who will have his choice of schools to pick from. A knockdown shooter that scores in bunches, he put up 28 in the All-Star game. As if that wasn’t enough he only played about 10 minutes.
Sterling Knox 6’3 Durango 2023 – (#3 PHN 2023) – Knox brings an absolute strap with him any time he walks into the gym. Prototypical size for a wing. Knox doesn’t have a textbook jumper, however, he makes it, and is consistent with his release. If he and Mack play together at Durango for any length of time, you’re looking at one of the most dynamic 1-2 punches in the nation.
Jayven Jones 6’0 Centennial 2022 – Jones is a bully. A powerful frame, combined with an explosive ability to beat defenders. Despite only being about 6 feet tall, he manages to get his shot off over larger players by using his body to knock them off balance.
Gianni Rodriguez 6’3 Sierra Vista 2022 – The more I see of Rodriguez, the more I’m intrigued. He’s a natural playmaker, that understands how to create for his teammates. Good size and a solid handle to go along with it. Rodriguez should see minutes for Sierra Vista, this season. I’m anxious to see how he produces.
Seargant Jeffrey 6’3 Coronado 2022 – Perhaps the best athlete at the camp. Jeffrey is a powerful, talented player with the ability to finish at the rim. Good run and jump athlete, who scores off offensive rebounds and in transition. May end up getting squeezed in a numbers game at Coronado but clearly has ability.
Donovan Webster 6’2 Cheyenne 2022 (#24 PHN 2022) – When you see a kid play so much, the tendency is to pigeonhole them. This may be the case with Webster. He showed off an athletic skill set that I hadn’t seen all summer. Finished at the rim with several highlight-reel dunks and proved to be one of the most athletic players at the camp. Looks like all world guard Glen Taylor has a running mate.
