Jemaine Seagears does an excellent job of creating an organized, efficient, competitive environment. The camp begins with skill work and concludes with an all-star game of the top 20 players in attendance. It’s one of the easiest camps to evaluate because the camp attracts the top players in the area and he makes sure competition is always at its highest. In this article, PH takes a look at some of the top sleepers from the WODE Freshmen/Sophomore camp.
AJ Atencio 5’7 PG Liberty 2023 – Atencio’s limitation is obviously his size, however, he has skills. Tight handle combined with good quickness, allowed him to get by defenders. He has the ability to be a solid prep point guard. His ceiling will depend heavily on his ability to knock down open shots and if he grows a little.
Jacob Berry 6’3 PF Canyon Springs 2023 – Berry has the body type of a banger, yet he caught my eye with his effectiveness at hedging and switching ball screens. Showed much better feet than I expected. Very raw down low, however, he has soft hands and showed a few post moves. His potential will depend on his ability to get himself into basketball shape and continue to improve his post-game
Trevon Rodgers 6’2 SF Durango 2023 – Rodgers looks the part. He is a lean athlete with good run and jump ability. If you’re a freshmen at Durango, it may be hard to find minutes this season, however, Rodgers provides defensive versatility and the ability to score in transition. If he continues to develop his outside shot, he has an opportunity to be a true sleeper.
Terrell Palmer 6’3 SF Durango 2023 – Palmer caught my eye during the drills. Has a good understanding of the fundamentals for a player so young. Right now his best skill is his defensive versatility, his length and size allow him to guard multiple positions. He also showed versatility on the offensive end, driving and creating plays for his teammates. If he can continue to develop his outside shot and overall offensive skill set, he has an opportunity to be a true sleeper.
Kyree Cage 5’10 PG Desert Oasis 2023 – The camp was loaded with PG’s so forgive me if Cage went a little under the radar. After watching the film I fell in love with his poise, handle and ability to create shots off the bounce. He’s at a great program to learn the PG position, if he continues to learn the nuances of P&R basketball, and develops his outside shot his ceiling should rise.
Seargant Jeffrey 6’3 SF Coronado 2022 – Seargant is a situational sleeper for me. As Jay Bilas would say. “He’s really good” Jeffrey is a good run and jump athlete that finishes well in transition. He gets off the floor quickly and had several highlight blocks. What I absolutely love about him was his ability to create plays for his teammates in transition. Part of the reason why he is a sleeper is because he will have to wait his turn at Coronado, but this kid can flat out play.
