Jemaine Seagears does an excellent job of creating an organized, efficient, competitive environment. The camp begins with skill work and concludes with an all-star game of the top 20 players in attendance. It’s one of the easiest camps to evaluate because the camp attracts the top players in the area and he makes sure competition is always at its highest. In this article, PH takes a look at some of the top shooters from the WODE Freshmen/Sophomore camp.
Sterling Knox 6’3 Durango 2023 (#2 PHN 2023) – When Knox gets his feet set, count it. He was devastating in catch and shoot action all day, hitting 6 3’s in one contest. He has a short elbow hitch at the beginning of his shot, however as his high school coach pointed out he makes it, and he also shoots it the same every time. His size allows him to easily rise up over smaller defenders. He made most of his shots from behind the 3, but he did show the ability to put the ball on the ground, knocking down several shots off the bounce.
Sebastian Mack 6’1 Durango 2023 (#1 PHN 2023) – “They Shooting” Literally heard that all day as Mack put on an absolute show. He left no doubt as to why he was the #1 player in the class. Go watch the first 5 minutes of the all-star game if you want to understand why he’s so lethal from behind the arc. Showed the quickest release of any player at the camp. He’s a knockdown shooter in both catch and shoot action as well as off the dribble. Mack loves to go left, separate and pull up from behind the arc. Already has true range out to the NBA line.
Elijah Burney 5’8 Centennial 2023 – Burney is a sniper. He is most effective when shooting off the dribble. Didn’t have one particular game that stood out, however, he shot it well in all of them including the all-star game. His shooting compliments his overall game so well because defenders are forced to respect his quickness and finishing ability. Several times Burney used one hard dribble to force the defender to back peddle, after which he would set his feet and bury a 3.
Nick Jefferson 5’11 2024 – The future is extremely bright with Jefferson. The 8th grader more than held his own against top competition. He has an absolute trigger. Super quick release and he can shoot it from range. Made about 4 or 5 3’s in a row in one game. Primarily at his best in catch and shoot situations, however, he showed the ability to create space with rhythm dribbles and then knock down shots.
