Jemaine Seagears does an excellent job of creating an organized, efficient, competitive environment. The camp begins with skill work and concludes with an all-star game of the top 20 players in attendance. It’s one of the easiest camps to evaluate because the camp attracts the top players in the area and he makes sure competition is always at its highest. In this article, PH takes a look at some of the players that raised their stock at the WODE Freshmen/Sophomore camp.
Donovan Webster 6’2 SF Cheyenne 2022 (#24 PHN 2022) – This was the best that I’ve seen Webster look. He was a dominant player every second he was on the floor. Proved to be a great run and jump athlete as well as a wing capable of scoring from multiple levels. Showed a “Dog” mentality needed to be a great player. Currently ranked #24 in the C/O 2022 however performances like this will definitely boost his stock.
Gianni Rodriguez 6’3 SF Sierra Vista 2022 – Very fortunate to catch a player like Rodriguez at the camp. He showed off a versatile skill set and staked his claim to being in the 2022 rankings. He is going to get an opportunity to play this year for Sierra Vista, if he performs anything near like he did today, then he certainly will be making an appearance in the rankings.
Osvaldo Biebrich 6’3 PF Desert Pines 2023 – Biebrich wasn’t flashy, but he was efficient. It felt like he collected every available rebound. Has good size and displayed several advanced post moves. As he becomes more efficient finishing around the rim, expect his stock to rise even higher.
Jayven Jones 6’1 SG Centennial 2022 – Jones impressed me with his strength and offensive skill set. He showed a great ability to change speeds and get consistent paint touches. Jones has certainly placed himself on the radar, now he needs to carry that momentum into the high school season.
Sylis Gray 6’3 SF Clark 2022 – Gray raised his stock simply by showing up and being willing to compete. He displayed a silky smooth game. He is a long athlete that has a terrific floor game. He is still a bit raw and will have to improve his skill set, however, he has the type of frame that coaches are looking for.
Jaques Williams Jr 5’10 Arbor View 2022 – I knew nothing about Williams before this camp. He certainly left an impression on me. Played with quiet confidence and swagger. He showed off an array of advanced offensive moves including Euros and step backs. Arbor View is loaded this year, so he may not have an opportunity to produce, however, he certainly boosted his stock at the camp.
Seargant Jeffrey 6’3 Coronado 2022 – Jeffrey proved to be one of the better run and jump athletes in attendance. That fact alone allowed him to raise his stock. Similar to Gray, his skill set is a bit raw, however, he has an excellent frame and showed the ability to run the floor fluidly and finish around the rim. He will probably have to wait his turn at Coronado, however, he definitely showed potential.
Karson James – I don’t know much about Karson James except he was #13 in Black. He played extremely well, and first caught my eye with his fundamentals in the drills. In the games, I loved his poise and the way he contributed in a variety of ways. Obviously need to see more of him, but he certainly raised his stock.
