Continue ReadingThe West Coast Elite showcase came to Colorado this past weekend and brought out some of our top names as well as new players to take a look at. It was put together in a different way with the younger guys mending in and sharing the court with some of our top players but was still a bit entertaining. Here are the top bigs of the event.
James Shiers – Mead
Shiers is not only size but has the skill to go along with it. He uses his 6’11 frame to take over on both ends of the floor. He gets to his spots on offense and finishes, he grabs boards and doesn’t allow others box him out as he goes over the top and wheat I was excited to see was him get going even against other top bigs. He is a player that will continue to get better and in these events against the other top bigs, he has held his own which will only get him better.
Greg Gerhardt—Monarch
Gerhardt was just too big out there. In an event that had some of the younger players in 8th and 9th grade, it was easy to see why he stood out. He used his size no matter who was around and he also made it a point to go to other bigs. He can put the ball on the floor a bit, has improving footwork that allows him to get easier baskets and keeps the ball up after rebounds. He is a big that does not shy away from contact and he is very active on the boards.
Baye Fall—Denver Lutheran
Baye Fall is just too big. He literally did any and everything that he wanted at the event and his size is something that you cannot teach. In about five minutes of watching him play, he had two dunks, lay in and about five blocks. He is going to lead the state in blocks, I am calling it now. For some reason smaller players test him and he makes sure to let them know that it was a mistake. He was one of the top players on the entire day and was most definitely the best big man at the event. He is a game-changer.
Gino Corridori—Dakota Ridge
Corridori is a player that stands out with massive size. He moves well, he can switch onto different positions on defense and he is very active on the boards. He keeps plays alive defensively and offensively is a player that is going to continue attacking. He showed soft touch around the rim and got to his spots for easy baskets.
Mamadou Sow— Denver Lutheran
One of the first things that stand out about Mamadou is his footwork. He moves well offensively and finds ways to get easy baskets at the rim. He had an up and under, he used his jab step to generate momentum and finished on the opposite block and also had a mid-range pull up. He sees the floor well for a big man which will go well this upcoming season next to Baye Fall. I like that he is already moving without the ball and finding openings as he will have to do all season long. He is going to be tough to manage down low this season as the second big man option.
