Continue ReadingThe West Coast Elite showcase came to Colorado this past weekend and brought out some of our top names as well as new players to take a look at. It was put together in a different way with the younger guys mending in and sharing the court with some of our top players but was still a bit entertaining. Here are the new names that stood out from the event.
Jordan Reed – Manual
Reed is a bigger guard that plays with strength and purpose. He makes his move and gets to the point and showed off the ability to do it all. He did a bit of everything as he ran the show as a guard that does not get a ton of attention. He defended at a high level, controlled the pace and in a showcase that players tend to try and take every shot he was able to get others involved. He is going to be tough to guard this season for teams and will have to up his game with a big chunk of scoring missing. The event was at Manual so he had a bit of familiarity with the rims and that is probably why he had a couple more baskets to fall his way. Good showing.
Jeremiah Warren—DSST Conservatory Green
Warren started out the day very aggressive and made sure that his presence was felt. He had a sequence where he knocked down a 3-pointer, had a deflection on the other end which led to a fast break and then did not shy away from the bigger defenders as he finished it with a floater. He runs the offense and pushes the tempo to get the defense at a disadvantage. He showed off the ability to play both ways of the floor and was dangerous in the open court.
Abel Maes—Overland
Maes is one of those entertaining players that is doing so many things that the little things go unnoticed. He is a bolt of energy that is giving his all on every single play and it is contagious. He was one of the most difficult players for others to stay in front of as he has a tight handle and quick first step. He attacked defenders off of the dribble and looked to score which led to some easy baskets. He also shot the ball well. He’s a name to at least keep on the radars as a difference-maker down the line.
Elijah Carlson—Vista Peak
Carlson was a name that I did not know at all heading into the event but he made my list as he continued to make winning plays and is a name to know moving forward. He got to the rim and finished, he had a few good moves that freed himself up and also he was a player that was excellent in help-side defense the entire day that I saw him. He is going to create waves on the defensive end and those plays will create scoring opportunities. Stock boosting day for sure.
