With a roster full of Division 1 athletes Coach Evans looks to take this team to new heights starting with another birth into The Geico National Tournament in New York City.
Wasatch is scheduled to play 33 games this year and 12 of those will be against in-state schools with most traveling to Mount Pleasant to face the Tigers on their home court. The small town of Mount Pleasant has a population that is about 3,400. On the basketball court they play anything but small town basketball. With players flying all of the court and everyone on roster playing above the rim, even their shortest player (Mike Saunders) can fly. This year like past years coaches from all over the country will flock to this small town to watch some of the best players in the country compete.
The Tigers open the season at home against Payson, Utah. Then they square off against Lone Peak at the UVU Tip-Off Classic in Orem. This will be their first test of the year. They start the month of December against Wasatch High School and Tooele before they play in the Great Western Shootout in Orem, Utah. They will make a short trip to Las Vegas to play Desert Oasis and return to Utah to play against Skyline, Springville and Judge Memorial before they take a trip to Hawaii. Wasatch Academy will play in the Iolani Prep Classic where they will play five games. The field at the Iolani Prep Classic in Oahu is loaded. In January the Tigers will face off against Roman Catholic and Paul VI at the Cancer Research Classic in West Virginia. They will lthen take on Desert Valley Prep, Bountiful and Layton Christian. They will then play in the Kevin Durant MLK Classic against Norcross. The Tigers then return to Utah to play Jordan and Juan Diego Catholic before heading to The Bob Kirk Invitational. They will take on Rock Creek Christian Academy and St, Benedict’s Prep. The end the season against Real Salt Lake Academy, Layton Christian and Desert Valley Prep.
The Wasatch Academy roster this year features five committed Division 1 athletes. 6’7 Leonardo Colimerio (Fresno State), 6’9 Caleb Lohner (University of Utah), 6’0 Mike Saunder (University of Cincinnati), 6’5 Richie Saunders (BYU), 6’9 Mady Sissoko (Michigan State). New player to watch is 6’2 Sophomore Guard Richard (Pop Pop) Isaacs Jr. who has elite IQ. He can score from all over the floor.
With the amount of length that Wasatch Academy has and improved shooting we anticipate that the Tigers will return to the Geico Nationals once again.
