One of the best prospects in Wisconsin was taken off the recruiting board on Tuesday night. Tyrell Stuttley, a 2020 wing prospect from Onalaska, announced that he will be playing his college hoops at Minnesota State.
Stuttley averaged 15.3 points per game last year as a junior for the Hilltoppers, and he is ready to put up even bigger numbers as a senior.
The Mavericks are getting a player who could blossom into a star at the Divison II level. Stuttley combines athleticism with a smooth scoring touch on the offensive end of the court. He will be a tough player to stop for just about any defender in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
Prep Hoops Wisconsin caught up with Stuttley to talk about why he felt Minnesota State was the right choice.
“Their coaching staff is really what stood out to me. They don’t just want you to come and play for them, they want to develop you into a young man. And also just the atmosphere there is great. They all want to be the best and nothing less than that and just the school, in general, is a great school,” Stuttley told Prep Hoops Wisconsin.
As for fitting in with MSU’s x’s and o’s scheme, Stuttley thinks that he can make a seamless transition to the college game.
“I know I’ll fit in good there. They play how I like to play. Mostly up and down fast pace. And I have a good relationship with most of the guys so I’ll be able to figure out what they can do also.”
This commitment comes at the perfect time for Stuttley, who said he wanted to get his recruitment wrapped up before his senior season tipped off.
“I don’t have to worry about who’s sitting in the stands watching and also so I can just worry about playing my last year, knowing that I am going to play somewhere next year.”
Before he gave his pledge to MSU, Stuttley said that Winona State and Southwest Minnesota State were showing some interest.
Stuttley still has some work to do in the high school ranks before he gets on the Minnesota State campus. Onalaska returns a handful of talented players for the upcoming season. If all goes right, Stuttley could be playing his final high school game on the Kohl Center floor.
