Zionsville beats Carmel with wild 3 from Ben Weidner to send to OT
Zionsville went head-to-head with Carmel tonight in a battle of “rebuilding squads.” Carmel is coming into this season as the reigning 4A State Champs but is looking a whole lot different. Zionsville is also coming into this season with a new team and actually fell to Carmel last year in Sectionals.
Tonight, Zionsville was able to avenge their loss to Carmel in a wild fourth quarter and overtime win. With Carmel having a 3-point lead with 2.3 to go, Ben Weidner hit an unbelievable 3 from the wing to send the game into overtime. Once into overtime, Zionsville was able to defeat Carmel 46-41.
As it was discussed in the “3 For 3” article I posted on Monday, the winner of this game would prove to be one step further in their rebuilding season than their opponent. Zionsville is starting this season with a win while the reigning champs start off the season with one in the loss column. Zionsville travels to Westfield next whereas Carmel travels to Ohio to take on Mason.
Loogootee’s Silas Bauer’s monster night leads to win over North Daviess
Tonight saw a really good matchup between a great offensive team and a great defensive team. North Daviess’ offense is supposed to be one of the best in the state but it was not enough to defeat Loogootee’s good defense. However the story of tonight out of that game is just how dominate forward Silas Bauer was.
Loogootee’s Silas Bauer was able to contribute a double-double tonight with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Bauer is already an all-around stud and tonight just further proved that. One should expect that this will not be the only double-double that this brick-house of a player brings this season.
Overall tonight, Loogootee shot a FG percentage of 42.8% compared to North Daviess’ 30.7%. Jo Wildman of Loogootee was actually the leading scorer for the Lions with 17 points whereas North Daviess’ Jack Townsend lead the night with 24 points. North Daviess should bounce back sooner rather than later.
Bloomington South dominates Edgewood, surprisingly
Do not get me wrong, it is not surprising that Bloomington South dominated tonight, it is just fact that they were able to do it against a good Edgewood team. This game was one of the most hyped games to start off the high school season in Indiana. The game was not as close as expected however.
South was able to walk all over Edgewood tonight and grab a 94-40 win over Edgewood. A 54 point win was not what most had projected to say the least. Anthony Leal was the leading scorer for South with 21 points while Jace Utley was the lead scorer for Edgewood with just 10 points.
There are still so many questions with this game. Did Edgewood just under-perform or is this a sign of things to come this season? Or is it that Bloomington South just showed that they will be nearly unstoppable this year? Though it might be too early to tell, those questions will get answered soon enough.
