Top Players of the Week (Week 1)
The first week of the 2019-20 high school basketball season in Tennessee is complete, and there were a lot of players who played well.
Just like last season, I list the best performers at the end of the week. This will continue throughout the season until the final whistle blows in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
So, here are the Top Players of the Week:
Jaylon Sanders, Collierville: The senior guard had 22 points and 10 assists in the Dragons’ 61-41 win over Haywood County.
Mason Miller, Houston: The junior guard/forward had 19 points in the Mustangs’ win over Mitchell, then followed up that performance with a 22-point outing in a win at Olive Branch.
Zion Swader, Siegel: The junior guard had 28 points, five assists, three steals and one rebound in the 76-64 win over McCallie. He had 14 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals in the 58-48 win over Bearden.
Patrick Smith Jr., Goodpasture: The junior guard had 20 points, eight steals and seven assists in a win over the Hendersonville Royals.
Jesse Payne Jr., Whitehaven: The senior guard had 25 points in the 91-47 win over Mitchell. His teammates, Kavion McClain (14 points), Kristain Spencer (14 points) and Antwan Smith (11 points), played well also.
Johnathan Lawson, Wooddale: Lawson had 23 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in Monday’s win at Hillcrest.
Jalen Brown, Wooddale: The 6-foot-4 scoring guard had 20 points and seven rebounds against Hillcrest.
Kevin Brown, Wooddale: The senior point guard had 13 points, four steals and four assists against Hillcrest.
Alden Applewhite, Houston: The 6-6 combo guard had 18 points against Olive Branch.
Alex Anderson, Tipton-Rosemark Academy: The South Alabama commit had 30 points and 12 rebounds in Friday’s home win over Arlington.
Cam Donegan, Tipton-Rosemark Academy: Donegan had 18 points against Arlington.
Chandler Jackson, Christian Brothers: The sophomore point guard had 28 points, six rebounds and two assists in an overtime loss to Wooddale.
Reese McMullen, Christian Brothers: The junior guard had 17 points, five assists, two steals and two rebounds against Wooddale.
Willie Foreman, White Station: The junior forward had 16 points in the Spartans’ win over Christian Brothers.
Davon Barnes, White Station: The junior wing had 15 points against Christian Brothers.
Amauri Abner, White Station: The senior guard led the Spartans with 21 points against Christian Brothers.
Andersson Garcia, Hamilton Heights: Garcia had 17 points, 15 rebounds and five assists in a win over Teays Valley.
Bayron Matos, Hamilton Heights: Matos had 16 points and nine rebounds against Teays Valley.
K’Juan Banks, Cordova: The senior guard had 30 points, 11 rebounds and three steals in the Wolfpack’s 68-60 loss to Central on Saturday.
Justin Borders, Cordova: The senior guard had 14 points, five assists, two rebounds and two steals against Central.
Calvin Jennings, Cordova: Jennings had 11 points, six rebounds and two steals against Central.
Kennedy Chandler, Briarcrest: The junior point guard had 29 points in the Saints’ win over Trezevant.
Marcellus Brigham Jr., Briarcrest: The senior wing had 12 points and seven rebounds against Trezevant.
Michael Malone Jr., Briarcrest: The senior guard had 11 points, five assists and five steals against Trezevant.
JP Pegues, Hillsboro: The junior guard had 20 points in a win over Rossview.
Bakari Johnson, Freedom Prep: The sophomore wing had 23 points, seven rebounds, three steals and one block against Manassas.
Jason Coleman, Overton: The senior guard had 30 points on Tuesday against Sheffield and 29 points on Friday against Nashville McGavock.
