While all those players are capable of taking over a game, they need help from a secondary scorer. Here are the top secondary scorers in North Jersey.
Adama Sanogo, 6’9 PF Patrick School 2021
The Patrick School have numerous options to be the team’s second leading scorer, but Sanogo has the best opportunity to do so. He is an active big man who knows how to get open in the paint. Sanogo has a soft touch around the basket and is developing a good perimeter game. He has experience playing with Kuminga as the duo played at Our Savior New American in New York last season. Sanogo is a quality big man who is capable of giving the Patrick School 15 points and 10 rebounds a night.
CJ Wilcher, 6’5 SG Roselle Catholic 2020
Roselle Catholic is also loaded with scoring options, but Wilcher will be the go-to guy for the Lions. The Xavier signee is a marksman from deep and is able to get his shot off in a hurry. Wilcher is not just a shooter as he can also get into the lane and finish around the rim. Richie Greaves and Niels Lane are also perimeter options for Roselle Catholic, but Wilcher’s shooting will help Omoruyi the most. The Lions are looking to repeat as Non-Public B North champions and Wilcher is looking to take them there.
Justin Glover, 6’2 SG Hudson Catholic 2021
The battle for Hudson Catholic’s secondary scorer is a three-man race between Glover, Malik Austin and Isaiah Griffin. Austin is the team’s top interior presence, but Glover is best suited to be the team’s second leading scorer. The junior guard is the perfect backcourt compliment to a ball-dominate player as he is a good shooter, but also capable of creating a shot for himself. Cruz will no doubt lead the Hawks in scoring, but his backcourt mate Glover will be the team’s second leading scorer.
Will Richardson, 6’2 PG Bergen Catholic 2022
Richardson would be the top scorer on most teams, but Notre Dame commit Matt Zona figures to lead the Crusaders in scoring. The 6’2 sophomore is an explosive athlete who excels at getting to the basket. He can knock down three-pointers, score from the mid-range and run the offense to perfection. Raejon Figures and Julian Brown are also capable of putting up big numbers, but Richardson is most likely to do it on a consistent basis.
Gavin O’Farrell, 6’6 PF St. Peter’s Prep 2021
Mark Armstrong is slated to have a monster sophomore season, but O’Farrell should breakout in 2019-20. The junior power forward was dominant against University at the Northeast Fall Invitational with his toughness, positioning and soft touch around the basket. O’Farrell is capable of knocking down three-pointers and is a good enough shot-blocker to be an interior presence. St. Peter’s Prep has the potential to be one of the top teams in the state and O’Farrell gives them the chance to be special.
