Conference Commentary
State Title Contender: Caledonia, Rushford-Peterson
Caledonia enters the season number three in Class AA with the momentum of smacking Minneapolis North in the Breakdown Summer State Tournament and then outlasting Waseca for the championship. The Warriors had a couple bad losses last year but they’ve grown. And it’s not just Eli and Noah growing, some really good players are developing around them too. Rushford-Peterson is a top ten team in Class A to start the season as they look like one of Class A’s deeper squads. Luke O’Hare and Kobe Lind are really good players with a lot around them, plus the Trojans are always coached so well.
Top Ten Potential: La Crescent-Hokah, Dover-Eyota, St Charles
Each of these three teams is top 25 worthy in Class AA basketball and if depth has been developed around the top players these teams could push to the top ten with a big win and consistent victories over the teams they should beat. Each of these teams is in very similar spots. Dover-Eyota has the biggest star in Williams but both La Crescent-Hokah have solid St Charles tandems.
Compete with Most: PEM, Lewiston-Altura, Southland, Chatfield
These are the four teams that we expect to make the biggest jump this year. Southland won six games last year but they have some solid young players while PEM brings back nearly everything. And between Gunner Reed of Lewiston-Altura and Reid Johnson of Chatfield, these are very good players leading their teams.
