Conference Commentary
Compete with Most: Harding, Humboldt, Highland Park, Johnson, Washington
Harding was three games over average a year ago and they bring their best two players back including the league’s preseason MVP Simeon Sharp. Harding will have higher expectations this year with a new coach but a coach that is familiar with the team. Humboldt was 11-16 last season but brings back nearly their entire team. Highland Park may have a bit more talent back but maybe not the depth returning. The Governors from Johnson have the veteran coach in Vern Simmons plus enough talent back to be around .500 at least again this year. Washington has to be better. They have a couple of the best players in the league and return a lot, but won only six games last season.
Rebuilding: Central, Como Park
Central is a mystery because last year they played almost an exclusive line-up of talented seniors that won the league by four games. Their JV was really good a season ago but it’s tough to know how that translates. They are expected to be solid but to what degree is hard to know. Como Park losses it’s top scorers, has a new staff, and the top player is an underclassmen.
