Conference Commentary
State Contenders: Champlin Park, Park Center, Totino-Grace
Park Center enters the season as the number one team in Class AAAA basketball. The Pirates were the #1 last year for much of the season losing only two games total and earning third place in state. They also return more than anybody else that will contend for the title. Champlin Park is a top ten squad that has talent at all spots for a great run this year, but they only return one starter. As far as Totino-Grace goes, they will be a top ten team entering the year so they slip into this category. That said they are a young team that is in Minnehaha Academy’s section so it would take a great upset this year to make state.
Potential Top Ten: Osseo, Maple Grove, Spring Lake Park, Armstrong
Each of these teams has the talent to potentially be in the top ten, but they will need a few things to go their way for it to happen. Osseo has a loaded sophomore class but is the group ready for top ten? Maple Grove has more talent than people know plus they bring back a good group of role players, can they go from 15 to ten? Spring Lake Park and Armstrong have talent but do they have top ten depth?
Compete with Most: Coon Rapids, Rogers, Blaine, Centennial
Rogers moves over from a different league replacing Irondale, Blaine always seems to be between 10 and 18 wins, Centennial has the pieces to be in the middle of League 1 and Coon Rapids continues to take steps. Some years small, some years a bit bigger.
Rebuilding: Anoka, Elk River, Andover
