Knowing that non-league, showcases and tournaments would begin the following week in NorCal. Here’s a rundown of the prospects I observed as the played with their teams this past week. These prospects are expected to contribute to the success of their HS teams this season.
Monday
Harry Nauci 6’6 2021 Santa Clara HS
Nauci transferred from Lincoln HS in San Jose and is now holding down the post for his new school Santa Clara. He’s lost about 15lbs, and is getting up and down the floor better. He’s using one good post move inside to score his points, but will have to work on his footwork and add other post moves to be more effective on the block. He can knock down the jumper at the elbow and is a good passer from the high post. He maintains a presence in the post on defense with his size and can change shots. He’ll be counted on to collect rebounds in a high number for this team.
Tuesday
Bellarmine, St Josephs Alameda, Palma, Palo Alto. These teams hooked up for a scrimmage hosted by Bellarmine who plays in arguably the toughest league (WCAL) in NorCal. The boys from Bell handled their business in this scrimmage format playing each team once for 25 minutes. The Bells will be lead by Quinn Denker 6’1 2020 All-League point guard. Denker’s a tough competitor. He knows how to run an offense, he knows when to take it upon himself to get a bucket for his team. He’s a little crafty on the drive often keeping defenders off balance on the drive. He shoots the 3 pretty good to. Ryan Kiachian 6’9 2021 Post player continues to add to his development. He’s stronger and will help this team with his inside scoring and ability to change and block shots, and get rebounds. I noticed he shot the 3 from the top making a few. Ridley Ruth III 6’0 guard 2020 is a steady performer with quality passing skills will attack the basket strong. The Bells will have a deep rotation off the bench that includes Josh Wolf-Bloom 6’4 2021 prospect who lead the JV team to an undefeated season last year.
St Joe’s will have top 2022 prospect 6’5 Jaylen Thompson to lean on this upcoming season as he repeatedly found his way to the free throw line because of his ability to attack the basket and draw fouls. Jaylen Jones the 5’10 2020 point guard will handle the ball handling duties for the Pilots, his experience and leadership will lead this Pilots team. Ashton Korth 6’5 2022 prospect likes to spot up in the corner for 3’s. He, Thompson along with 6’6 Cheikh Gueye gives St Joe’s good size and rebounding.
Other notable prospects from the scrimmage
Kyle Lewis 6’4 2020 Bellarmine – Nice solid body moves well, a good defender. He’s starting to look for his shot on offense.
Nate Jean Pierre 5’9 2022 Palma -A solid point guard with good quickness and handles, does a good job of running the teams set offense, can score in a crunch.
Kiran Kruse 6’5 2020 Bellarmine– Brings experience and hustle to the Bells lineup, plays hard, can defend and rebound.
