One. Park Center. Why is Park Center number one? I think they are the deepest and most talented team returning in the state. It was a close call between them and EP but when Ariel Bland left for prep school that took away an element for the Eagles in defending around the basket. Meanwhile Park Center, who was number one for much of last year, not only has Dain Dainja and DT Frierson back as starters but they have a talented senior backcourt and good talent making up the bench.
2. Eden Prairie
3. Prior Lake
4. Wayzata
5. Cretin-Derham Hall
Six. Hopkins. The Royals won a state title last year, why so low? Because they lost four starters and have to replace an outstanding frontcourt. Kerwin Walton is back to lead, the young talent is really good, and the Royals grabbed a couple quality senior transfers so they will certainly be in contention.
7. Shakopee
8. Eastview
9. East Ridge
10. Champlin Park
Eleven. Chaska. The Hawks are the best team that I didn’t put in the top ten but they are a top ten level squad. They return three starters and all of their reserves from a good team a year ago. The top two scorers need to be replaced but the tools are there.
12. Edina
13. Osseo
14. Tartan
15. Lakeville South
Sixteen. Maple Grove. The Crimson are in somewhat of a similar situation as Chaska in that they lost their top scorers but return a really nice group of players that earned varsity experience a year ago. I expect them to win Section 8AAAA once again.
17. Rochester Mato
18. Moorhead
19. Robbinsdale Armstrong
20. Spring Lake Park.
Twenty-One. Lakeville North. “Are the Panthers going to drop that far?” or “They lost so much, how can they be top 25”. Those are two questions I have already heard in discussions about this season. Look, John Oxton is a great coach and the Panthers are going to be in the mix. There were several good Panthers players on 17u and 16u teams this year that will make them tough. They also have a couple experienced senior guards.
22. Buffalo
23. North St. Paul
24. Minnetonka
25. STMA
