One. Henning. Henning won a state title at 31-1 putting together one of the best team basketball efforts I’ve seen since watching my first high school basketball game in 1988. Coach Randy Misegades did a fabulous job molding the team and what’s exciting about this winter is that four of the top six players from Henning’s state title squad return. Parker Fraki, Blake Wallevand, and Isaac Fisher are now experienced seniors ready to face a nightly challenge from teams looking to prove they can defeat the Hornets.

Six. Ada-Borup. You may have to give Ada-Borup a break at the start of the season. They are currently in the final four of the Class A football state tournament that plays next this weekend. If they win that? Basketball practice will be delayed because the team will be playing for a state title. But once they take the court and remember how to hoop another state run will begin. Ada-Borup only lost two players from their rotation.

Eleven. CHOF. CHOF is the heavy Section 4A favorite. They made their first trip to state in 18 seasons going 23-7 on the season. Expectations are high with Preston Alleman and Isaac Collins leading a nice group of returning players state will be on the mind again.

Twenty-One. Nevis. Nevis won 18 games a year ago with a young team. Eddie Kramer is one of the top young playmakers in northern Minnesota and Luek DeWulf is a 20 a game scorer. Derek Lindow and Ty Warrington join Kramer and DeWulf to make up a talented and experienced young team.
