Voyager vs Durham Academy! Both teams come into the matchup at 6-0 and feature D1 prospects, Voyager 2020 Forward/Center Jonas Aidoo is on the rise recruitment wise, he’s a legit 7 footer that has good upside. Durham Academy features 2022 Wing MJ Rice who is a special prospect and is a nationally ranked level player, don’t be shocked to see ACC programs dropping in to see him consistently as time goes on.
Northside Jacksonville vs New Hanover: Northside is under new leadership this season and working to get their rhythm as they have gotten off to a slower start but they have a nice group of talent that should get on the right track sooner than later. Senior 6’6 Forward Quincy Martin Jr and Junior 6’5 Forward Aaron Oates are both players that can score and rebound the ball at a nice level. New Hanover is a younger group with some stellar guard play, one player in particular to keep a close eye on is Sophomore Guard Demirion Barnett who finished with 13, 4 & 4 in his debut last week.
Village vs Trinity: There’s not much that needs to be said about this matchup, these teams battle every single season with the squads splitting wins last season. VCA is led by a trio of seniors in: Columbia Signee Zavian Mclean, as well as Wings Justin Thomas & Josh Reid, both of who have picked up college interest. TCS is a younger group Guard wise but features Senior Todd Burtt and Junior Robert Wright at the Forward spots. The team that can dictate how this game will be played tempo wise, will be the squad that gets the win in front of a packed house.
Farmville Central vs Hunt HS: The Jaguars had a historic season last season, going undefeated and winning the state championship for the 2nd time in about four years. Tonight they begin their season and they return the majority of their team which will be important as they have a much tougher schedule when it comes to non-conference games this year. Look for the backcourt of Senior Guard Justin Wright and Junior Guard Terquavion Smith to put up big time numbers all year long.
Ben L Smith vs Southern Durham: With two of the state’s top unsigned seniors in this matchup, we can expect some fireworks without a doubt. Ben L Smith features top ranked Wing Silas Mason who has a picked up a high amount of offers over the last few years due to his ability to score the ball. Southern Durham features Ricky Council IV who has been a consistent highlight reel and bucket getter which has helped to raised his stock over the last months.
