Continue ReadingIn a back and forth battle between two Sarasota area programs, Lakewood Ranch held on for a 51-46 win over Booker on Tuesday night.
The Mustangs didn’t shoot the ball well from deep but had a good push towards the end of the matchup with some key buckets.
Here is a look at the standouts from the night.
Jaden Jones (Lakewood Ranch)
Filling in for the injured Keon Buckley, fellow 2020 5’9″ guard Jaden Jones was huge for Lakewood Ranch in this one with a game-best 19 points. He attacked relentlessly and had some really good takes to the rim. Jones was an energy setter and someone who will keep this offense going with Buckley sidelined until next month. He had a couple of bad passes, but things will settle down with more time as the point man.
Luke Lecroy (Lakewood Ranch)
I love the potential of 2020 6’6″ forward Luke Lecroy. He didn’t play much last season due to injury but was an asset of the bench. A lot of the offense runs through him now as he gets a chance to shoot in rhythm and attack. Lecroy only had one 3, but he was really good in transition and his length was a problem for defenses in that regard. He finished with 15 points.
King Winkfield (Booker)
This was a solid all-around game for 2020 5’11” guard King Winkfield. The confident shooter had 13 points and was a true playmaker for this new look Booker squad. He is going to get more comfortable with the pieces around him, but I think he needs to be the alpha out of the backcourt for this team to reach its full potential.
Christian Shaneyfelt (Lakewood Ranch)
There were some slow moments for 2020 6’6′” guard Christian Shaneyfelt (Rollins commit), but he is simply too crafty and smart to be fully contained. He had 14 points including a pair of lay-ins with under two minutes that put Lakewood Ranch ahead for good. His pass to Lecroy with under 30 seconds was a thing of beauty that led to a dunk for his teammate.
Paul Mcleod & Nate Jannamen (Booker)
A pair of juniors had some essential buckets for Booker. 2021 6’3″ guard Paul Mcleod paced Winkfield as an important shooting asset. He had nine points on three 3’s. As for Nate Jannaman, the 6’4″ forward came off the bench and hit on some really hard nosed layups. Booker will need more from the rest of its group of athletes. 2020 guard Noah Dubose, 2022 guard Jaron Glover and 2021 forward pair Demario Evans Jr. and Treyvon Hinson all had flashes but we will see what they can do as the season marches on.
