The Griffins won 62-57 in front of a raucous crowd.
Here is a look at the top standouts from the evening.
Jovan Hoskins (Gateway Charter)
2020 guard Jovan Hoskins was instrumental to this win for Gateway Charter with a team-high 13 points with nine points coming in the fourth quarter alone. When he gets downhill and free in transition, he is hard to contain. Hoskins is better when he is moving the ball and creating for others.
Raheem Dixon (Gateway Charter)
2020 forward Raheem Dixon paced Hoskins with 13 points which included a trio of 3’s. He had three 3’s in the third quarter which featured back to back with under a minute left in the third to put his side ahead 40-39. Dixon is a savvy shooter and one that defenses take for granted due to his size and frame.
Junior Sylvestre (Cypress Lake)
For Cypress Lake, the Panthers had a nice output from 2021 guard Junior Sylvestre with his 17 points. He opened the game with 10 points in the first quarter and tallied seven points in the fourth quarter. The speedster is vocal, gets to the rack and had some very tough finishes for his unit. Foul trouble kept him from scoring even more points.
Kaleb Ferreira & Jessy Dormeus (Cypress Lake)
2021 guard Kaleb Ferreira made things happen for his side with 16 points and he loved shooting from the corners. He connected on three 3’s between the second and third quarter. He is a leader for his side. 2020 guard Jessy Dormeus had 11 points for Cypress Lake with five points in the fourth quarter. He could get going in bunches as an attacker.
Elvis Padilla & Jonas Dantzler (Gateway Charter)
2020 guard Elvis Padilla had the game-winning 3 with a minute left to put Gateway Charter ahead 50-47. He scored five of his 10 points in the fourth quarter right down the stretch. He filled in alongside Hoskins with 2020 guard Jonas Dantzler injured. Dantzler had all of his eight points in the first half before falling hard in the third quarter and staying out due to injury.
