This one showed a hand full of prospects that affected the game in different ways. Including some talented sophomores and senior leaders.
Troy Scowden (2022) | 6-6 PF | Buckeye Valley
Troy Scowden was the best player on the court. A big time 19 point 10 rebound performance to lead Buckeye Valley to the big comeback win. Finished off the bounce, through contact. Knocked down jumpers off the catch and absolutely crashed the boards when he couldn’t get to a rebound he was sure to make sure his opposition wasn’t getting it with a firm box out. You can see the maturity and strength added already for the sophomore just from last season.
Addison Harvey (2020) | 6-0 G | Delaware Hayes
Harvey had a solid night, stuffing the stat sheet in a way. Was a tough on-ball defender, diving after loose ball, giving up his body for team success on the defensive end. Forced tie-up opportunities, despite recording no steals he was a menace on the defensive end. The senior showed spot up shooting ability off the catch, as a secondary scoring option. Addison is a good multi sport athlete that can go.
Max Stokey (2020) | 6-7 C | Buckeye Valley
Stokey showed a face up game early in this one where he got to the hoop and scored it. Crashed the boards, tipped the ball to teammates and was a big framed force. Showed creating abilities from about 18 feet out finding open slashers around the rim for open finishes.
Paul Burris (2020) | 6-6 PF | Delaware Hayes
Burris was the go-to weapon for Hayes last night as he often will be this season. Finished around the rim, including an athletic reverse finish that resulted in an and-one finish. Knocked down the turnaround jumper, got to rim off the bounce well. Was the Hayes leading scorer that definitely needed the offense.
Dylan Thompson (2022) | 6-1 WG | Buckeye Valley
The Buckeye Valley sophomore was a two way threat often guarding bigger players but giving up no less way. Showed a better shot from deep and knocked down shots off the dribble. Rebounded well from the guard position out of pure effort and out working other players. Thompson is one of the better underclass defenders in the Central Ohio area, which eventually will be noticed.
Jevin Beard (2022) | 6-0 G | Buckeye Valley
Beard worked as a primary ball handler, doing damage around the rim. Pressured ball handlers, including a key steal on an inbounds play that really swung the game the Barons way. Used clever ball fakes to get the defenders eyes moving and then blew by for finishes through contact at the rim. Was clutch down the stretch including overtime, specifically at the charity strike.
Nabil Abdus-Salaam (2020) | 6-4 F | Delaware Hayes
Salaam wasn’t much of a factor in the scoring column, but showed a soft touch around the rim. A must highlight here as he was a high effort player who fought on the boards, specifically the defensive end. Tallying 13 rebounds, the senior could be poised for a huge glass cleaning season as he did it against a rather large front court against Buckeye Valley.
Ryan Smudz (2021) | 5-9 G | Delaware Hayes
Smudz was a nice change of pace for the Barons, when they needed a bucket he was there. Helped maintain a couple key runs to have the Pacers in a good position to take this one. An extra ball handler on the court who showed the ability to knock it down off the catch or dribble.
