Continue ReadingThe 6’0 PG at Bingham High School will be entering his junior year. After having a strong statistical year averaging 9 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assist per game Jordan is on pace to have a breakout year for the Miners. Last years season ended prematurely due to the old playoff format that only allowed four teams to qualify for the playoffs which kept the Miners out of the playoffs despite having one of the best teams in the state.
Jordan put in a lot of work this off-season. “I’ve been working a lot on my jump shot and finishing around the rim. My jumper was a big priority for me this summer. I also wanted to get stronger and get back to 100% health.” Jordan has been receiving a few inquiries from colleges.
This year Jordan is one of the upperclassmen that thinks that his team has a shot at surprising people. “I think the sky is the limit for us this year. I strongly believe we can win a State Championship as long as wee steer clear from injuries. We have a really skilled squad and a deep bench.”
With a new coach and a new region Bingham has the ability and the players to be better than people expect them to be. The past two years they have had solid teams but playing in the toughest region in the state and not always finishing games has made people think that Bingham might be down. Jordan, like most leaders is ready for the challenge. “We love that stuff. I think we’re really going to feed off of it this entire season. It’s definitely a motivation for us in the weight room and on the court.”
Players are always looking for an edge or some added motivation. Jordan and the Miners are looking forward to playing anyone who is ranked ahead of them to knock them off and prove people wrong. They’re also looking forward to their renewed rivalry with Copper Hills and Herriman. Other pre-season games to look forward to is their match-up with Bountiful, Davis and Pleasant Grove.
We asked Jordan what it’s like putting on that Bingham jersey and he said, ” It’s a different feeling for sure. The tradition we have at this school is like no other. Samuta Avea who was on the 2016 State Championship team said, ‘it’s the guys before us that push this time of year.” So, for me I know that there is a really high standard when I put on this jersey. I know I need to show out. Not only for the guys before us, but for the city and the team as a whole.”
Jordan is a skilled player with high character that has great vision and gets other involved. With an improved jumper we expect him to score double digits in most games.
Don’t count out the Miners just yet, with a strong floor general and and a lot of motivated skilled players Bingham will be a dangerous team.
