2018-2019 Season Recap
Gill St. Bernard’s has been the class of the conference for years and that was no different last season. They led the Skyland with 26 wins and fought their way to the semi-finals of the Non-Public B state tournament. Zach Martini and Will Souchie were both First-Team All-Conference members and they will be back for one more year. Gill St. Bernard’s was one of three teams in the Delaware Division to finish with 20 or more wins.
Hunterdon Central and Watchung Hills both had strong seasons but finished just a couple games behind Gill St. Bernard’s for the division title. Bound Brook and Immaculata also finished with over 20 wins but they fell short of their division lead. An interesting team last season was Rutgers Prep. Led by Trey Patterson, Rutgers Prep finished atop the Raritan Division with a record of 8-2 in play.
The season shaped up like everyone expected but that does not mean that it will happen like that once again.
2019-2020 Season Preview
On paper heading into the season, Gill St. Bernard’s is the favorite once again. Martini, the Princeton commit, will return as a 6’7 forward who finished last season with 20 double-doubles. He will return with Souchie, his 6’5 partner, looking to take the next step to win a state title.
The player to watch in conference play will be Patterson. As a sophomore, Patterson scored over 500 points and this earned him offers from many big name programs such as Auburn, Maryland, and Florida. He will be a junior in 2019 which is a scary thing for the Skyland.
There are teams to watch out for in this conference that have a chance to make some noise such as Immaculata, Watchung Hills, and Montgomery. When it comes to the Skyland, anything can happen in 2019.
