Starters
Tharius Suggs – Guard
Suggs is a smooth operator in traffic and only a junior heading into the 2019-20 season. He’s a player that can get to the rim and score in bunches. As he works into basketball shape, he’s got Player of the Year potential in the South Wake Athletic Conference.
Sam Perez – Forward/Wing
Perez possesses breakout potential as a junior forward for the Mustangs. He’s a versatile player at 6-foot-7 that can finish at the rim and score from deep. When he finds his rhythm, he’s hard for opponents to stop.
Cooper Land – Forward
Land is a 6-foot-11 big man that fills the lane on the break and can finish around the rim. He’s another junior in this rotation with room to grow as a key piece in the rotation. He’ll be another name to watch for Middle Creek.
Logan Wheeler – Guard/Wing
Wheeler does a lot of the little things well like hustle for loose balls and secure rebounds in traffic. He’s a junior at 6-foot-2 that plays whatever role is needed of him when he’s on the floor.
Luke Sales – Guard/Wing
Sales is the lone senior in the starting rotation and has the ability to score the ball from all three levels with his length at 6-foot-5. He’s a player that can knock down outside shots and create space for other scorers on the floor.
Reserves
Quincy Pugh – Forward
Pugh is a gritty forward fresh off the football field. Once he’s back into basketball shape, he’s a player that should bolster the Mustangs’ frontcourt on both ends.
Shawan Holmes – Guard
Holmes is a quick guard that can get to the rim and finish strong in traffic. He isn’t afraid to control the pace with the ball in his hands and knows when to get points when he’s on the floor.
Nathan Kiger – Wing/Guard
Kiger is an aggressive but unselfish junior prospect that finds his spots to make things happen on the wing. He crashes the glass and creates off the bounce in the open court and isn’t afraid to shoot the 3-ball.
The Mustangs went 10-17 in 2018-19 but with tons of experience and chemistry returning, they’re due for a strong season so long as everything goes well.
Key Dates
12/2 – @ Heritage
The Mustangs will face a strong junior duo in Lucas Taylor and Red Dunton on the road on Dec. 2. Middle Creek will have their hands full in their second game of the season.
12/6 – Apex Friendship
Middle Creek will host the Apex Friendship Patriots on Dec. 6, giving them a chance to defeat NC State-bound forward Nick Farrar and company in an early-season conference battle.
12/19-21 – Westover
The Cumberland County Christmas Tournament poses a strong gauntlet of teams for Middle Creek, starting with the Westover Wolverines. They’ll be a scrappy group led by Isaiah Bridges, Darius Jewell and others to open the tournament.
