Today I pulled up to Durango H.S to check out their scrimmage against Coronado. Here are the players that impressed.
Felix Reeves 6’5 SF Coronado 2020 (#16 2020) – Reeves is a bouncy athlete who showed off his leaping ability both in the open floor and controlled scrimmages. Cedric Ceballos type that can score without having to have plays run for him.
Jaden Hardy 6’4 PG Coronado 2021 (#1 2021) – Was as good as advertised. Hardy has an amazing ability to squeeze through two defenders at full speed. He was unbelievable splitting traps and seams against zone. I know a lot of people label him a combo, but he has the IQ, vision, and playmaking ability to play the 1 full time. He’s a knockdown shooter, I saw Hardy make 10/11 3’s in a drill off to the side.
Keshon Gilbert 6’2 PG Durango 2021 (#6 2021) – It was a treat watching two of the top Juniors in the state battle it out. Gilbert showed a knack for finishing around the rim. No one could get in front of him, as he showed the ability to get consistent paint touches. Gilbert was amazing at seeking out the defender’s body and finishing through the contact.
Sebastian Mack 6’1 SG Durango 2023 (#1 2023) – It was great to see Mack in this setting. Coronado is a long athletic team. It was a challenge at first for him to separate and finish over their length. However, I loved that he showed the ability to adjust as the scrimmage went on. He used hesitations to separate, and floaters to defeat size and length.
Elijah Johnson 5’10 PG Durango 2022 (#17 2022) – I thought Johnson was the most consistent defender on the floor. He has quick feet and did an excellent job getting underneath ballhandlers and playing help-side D.
Tyson Guild 6’5 PF Durango 2021 – Guild is a nice addition to the team. The football player arrives in the nick of time, as it looks like Durango will be without Jacob Howard. Guild showed the ability to provide interior defense and rebounding.
