San Diego Tip-Off Challenge: Ten Best
Luke Haupt, W, St. Augustine
Haupt missed two of the games this week due to a sore foot, but looked very good in his lone appearance. The point forward is capable of getting the Saints into the offensive set and has excellent court vision off the bounce. Additionally, he works hard on the boards and has improved defensively guarding the ball.
Chibuzo Agbo, 6-7 2020 F, Saint Augustine
Agbo averaged 34 points per game over the three-game showcase, but saved his best performance for last: a 40-point, 17-rebound effort against Montgomery.
AJ Burgin, 6-3 2021 G, San Diego
Didn’t shoot the ball great, but did everything else en route to a 16-point, 8-rebound, 6-assist performance to help the Cavers hold on against Eastlake.
Shy Odom, 6-5 2022 F, Sierra Canyon
Defensively locked down Cathedral Catholic’s Obinna Anyanwu in the second half of the Trailblazers win over the Dons. Was unstoppable on the offensive glass, as he finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Obinna Anyanwu, 6-7 2020 F, Cathedral Catholic
In the first half of the game against Sierra Canyon, Anyanwu showed impressive flashes of improved perimeter shooting to complement his midrange and forceful finishing around the basket.
Maurice Holmes, 6-6 2020 W, Helix
The stretch four knocked down threes and looked more comfortable attacking the basket on his way to 19 points and 10 rebounds in a dominant win over Sweetwater.
Keishon Trice, 6-3 2020 W, Helix
Trice scored a team-high 23 points and was fearless attacking the basket and simply gets buckets around the hoop.
Brandon Robles. 6-4 2020 F, Sweetwater
His team went 0-3 this weekend, but the right-hand dominant post was relentless attacking the basket and gave a good effort on the boards.
BJ Boston, 6-7 2020 W, Sierra Canyon
A volume scorer, Boston sparked the Trailblazers in the second half of the Saint Augustine game, turning a 4-point game into a 21-point blowout. He started the run with a four-point play, hitting a quick-trigger three off the catch, and added several transition slams off of his pressure defense.
Angelo Rodriguez-Gil, 6-1 2023 PG, Mission Bay
Once again had his impressive IQ, court vision and scoring on display in a losing effort against San Ysidro, scoring 20 points.
Mikey Williams, 6-2 2023 G, San Ysidro
Williams put on a tremendous perimeter shooting display en route to 50 points in the win over Mission Bay, as he hit 8 threes as the Bucs appeared to concede the three to keep him out of the paint.
