Rossview High School brings back Spencer Mimms and fills in their rotation with a sprinkling of familiar faces. Minutes are up for grabs. The coming season will be different and new for RHS. What can be expected?
Rossview Hawks Rewind
The 2018-2019 season proved magical through January. Disregard the unceremonious ending for now. The departed senior class won every single home game and emerged victorious 41 times at home in their careers!
Huge congratulations to both Rossview’s programs on being 2019 10AAA Regular Season Champions!! #TrueToTheView #931Hoops

The seniors (Kole Monson, Max Leineweber, Kevonte and Jahmar Perkins, A.J. Reese, Chauncey Leavell) will be incredibly difficult to replace. Star shooter and scorer Spencer Mimms will be tasked with carrying an enormous scoring burden. Take a gander at what the team brings back and plans to do in 2019-2020.
FRONTCOURT:
The frontcourt consists of Eli Colvin, Logan Prairie and occasionally Spencer Mimms works low.
Logan is a traditional back-to-the-basket big. Just like everyone else on the unit, Prairie will be forced to take on a much larger role. He scored just 10 points last year, but was not on the floor often. His role was hardly to deliver buckets. That all changes this winter. Logan will be asked to hunt offensive rebounds. Anything he gives off those putbacks will obviously help lighten the scoring load on Spencer and Friends.
BACKCOURT:
Spencer Mimms earned placement on the PrepHoopsTN Fall Combine Top 40 All-Star Team. His shooting stroke will be heavily relied upon in his second year as a starter. Read about his combine experience here. Mimms will be pairing with Bryant Rippy. Rippy is the most veteran of the non-Spencer Hawks. That does not mean he is a proven D10AAA starter just yet.
Last year Rippy did play in every game, but he scored just 44 points, 14 of which came in a blowout win over Montgomery Central. Rippy’s control of the pace is ok. With a younger, less experienced team, Rippy needs to help control emotional swings from his teammates. The coach on the floor…Rippy handles fine. He will be tasked with defending some very tough players across the district. This will be his tallest task.
Rippy truly is the X-factor this season. How well the program succeeds in 2019-2020 largely depends upon Rippy’s steadiness and effectiveness.
“I think that they will be pretty solid,” shared ’19 graduate Max Leineweber in a Sunday interview. “Mimms will definitely be a powerhouse. I think Rippy will also play a large role as the point guard. He just needs to gain confidence through experience. The team just needs to identify their roles and fully buy into them in order to be great, but they can be for sure.”
KJ Montague will be thrust into a prominent role this season. Mimms sees KJ as a certain starter. What can he give? What will Montague offer on a nightly basis? Interesting season for the veteran.
KEY TO SUCCESS: Perimeter Defense. Keeping their men from simple penetration is important. Look at the losses: Station Camp, Stewarts Creek, Franklin, Kenwood, Northeast, Clarksville, Henry County. Not all, but most of these teams featured a quick guard or two. Rossview must mitigate penetrating guards. The Hawks again have the size to deny or challenge shots in deep, but they can’t allow too many guards free access.
Squad with projected *Starters
Conner Shane F
*Spencer Mimms G
*Bryant Rippy G
*Eli Colvin F*Logan Prairie F
*KJ Montague G
Moussa Camara G
HEAD COACH: Johnny Jackson
NEWCOMERS: Eli Colvin. Eli is a big dude. He stands about 6-foot-3 and will frequently populate the paint. Colvin’s contributions will be post defense, rebounding, and high energy. He can move his feet ok, but the team will benefit more from him putting his chest against a big.
SCHEDULE:
Rossview’s now the third to have their schedule released. It’s typical that they don’t have many non district games but their opener at Hillsboro for the boys will be an enticing one battling one of the top players in Nashville in Ryan Wilcox. #TrueToTheView #931Hoops pic.twitter.com/UI3Pk0h8yz
