There’s a good group of seniors coming back and manning the middle will once again be Gaige Ainslie. The solid 6-foot-8, 215-pound forward/post has added some bulk to his frame and he put in the work this summer to amp up his game as well.
In the spring/summer, Ainslie ran on the UA Rise circuit, once again with Elite 24/Cascadia Hoops. “I think it went pretty well – we won a lot and we had a lot of coaches at our games,” Ainslie said. “I became better at being offensively aggressive because I’ve been in the gym a lot and shooting more. I was scoring more.”
You can visibly notice the muscle that Ainslie has added to his body. In a recent Central Catholic open gym, he was strong on the boards and attacking the basket, dunking the ball with authority but also stepped out and flashed a smooth face-up jumper.
Ainslie wasn’t ready to reveal which specific schools are looking at him at this point but noted that he’s hearing from the Division I, II, and III levels. He’s also not sure if he’ll decide before, during, or after the season. “Right now I’m working on all of my options,” Ainslie said. “It’s to be determined.”
Instead the big man is honed in on the upcoming season, one in which Central Catholic enters with plenty of expectations – including the senior himself. “We’re going to be good,” Ainslie said. “We just have to stay healthy and work hard every day.”
Ainslie currently ranks as the #26 ranked player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2020 rankings.
