While the game of basketball is geared more to the perimeter with a heavy reliance of 3-point shooting, the 6’6″ Alkhaldi enjoys the action in the low post, where he does most of his damage with his big body and nice shooting touch. He has received interest from Missouri Baptist and several other NAIA programs.
When Alkhaldi is able to set up shot in the low post, he is very difficult to move as he knows how to seal defenders with his body and physical strength. His post moves and textbook fundamentally and he has the ability to finish with both hands around the basket. His ability to score inside provides an excellent compliment to premiere shooting teammate K.J. Lee, who is one of the state’s top juniors.
“It’s pretty good and I know that colleges need it,” said Alkhaldi of his low-post scoring prowess. “It’s still pretty hard to guard.”
As a junior, Alkhaldi averaged 10.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and two blocks a game while shooting 50 percent from the field. He is one of many top returning players for the Panthers, who have a chance to enjoy a big breakthrough season in 2020.
“We definitely want to compete for a district championship and hopefully go past that,” he said. “We’ve been building our team chemistry. I think we will play well together as a team.”
