The 6’8″ Parker is a physical post player with a big body and excellent skills in the paint. He makes great use of his size around the basket as a scorer, rebounder and he is also a willing passer. When it comes to bigs in the state who can pass the basketball, Parker is one of the best.
As a standout post player at a small school, Parker sees his share of double and triple teams, so he has been able to showcase his passing skills on a nightly basis. It is an excellent package that Columbia head coach Tomas Brock will get getting next season.
“The strengths of my game are my low post game, but also my ability to pass out of double teams and find the open teammate,” Parker said. “I try to use my size to my advantage by releasing higher on my shot and also on defense with contesting shots and getting rebounds.
As a junior, Parker averaged 19.4 points and 11 rebounds a game while shooting 57 percent from the field and nearly 70 percent from the free throw line. He has his sights on getting similar numbers this season, but also having much more team success. Another big reason for optimism is the return of Carson’s younger brother, Colin Parker to the starting lineup. Colin Parker is a 6’7″ 2021 forward who can play inside or on the perimeter.
“My goal for senior year is winning a conference and district championship, which is very possible this year,” he said. “My brother and I have great chemistry playing together which comes from all that time playing together out in the driveway. We almost know what each other is going to do before we actually do it.”
Parker is hoping to have the team success on the basketball court that he enjoyed on the baseball diamond. As a junior, he was a starting pitcher on Montgomery’s baseball team that advanced to the Final Four of the Class 3 state tournament in Missouri.
“It was amazing to go to the Final Four in baseball,” he said. “It was the school’s first ever district championship and to say that we made it to the Final Four is a huge accomplishment.”
