Entering his junior year, Dixon-Waters transferred from Dorsey where he developed into one of the top wing prospects in the Los Angeles area. He’s already received a few offers from Division 1 schools and with two more years of high school basketball left, it’s probably safe to say there will be more on the way.
So far, he holds offers from Cal, San Diego State, Santa Clara, Stanford, UCLA, USC, and Vanderbilt. Although it is still early, he knows what he’s going to be looking for when that time comes to choose where to play at the collegiate level.
“I’m going to be looking at how much the coach likes me and how well I fit into the system,” Dixon-Waters told Prep Hoops. “And also how well we gel and bond together as a team.”
Dixon-Waters looked solid fitting in with his new teammates during St. Bernard’s fall league the past couple of months. He’s a big wing with the ability to play both guard and forward. He has a good slashing game and can draw contact and get himself to the free-throw line.
He’s also able to handle the ball and act as the team’s primary playmaker at times. He’s capable of finding his open teammates on the break or in a half-court set. But as he continues his basketball journey, there are some aspects to his game that he’d like to improve upon.
“My on-ball defense, and probably getting to the basket more, I think I can improve on that,” Dixon-Waters said. “Also, encouraging my teammates a little more and becoming a better leader.”
This summer, Dixon-Waters suited up for The Truth in AAU competition on the famed Nike EYBL circuit. It was his first summer playing on the circuit and he wanted to show out.
Some of his college offers have recently come in, but he had a few already from when he was playing at Dorsey. He was being somewhat overlooked, and he wanted to use the EYBL platform to show the world that he definitely deserved those offers.
“It was my first year playing so I kind of wanted to make a statement about my game and show everyone that I’m capable of all the offers that I got,” Dixon Waters said. “Also to develop my game so that when high school comes, it’s easier.”
Dixon-Waters played on a Truth team that included some other solid local talent including former Dorsey teammate Jason Hart Jr. and current St Bernard teammate Damion McDowell. For him, it was a fun experience on the EYBL circuit.
It was also eye-opening for him to go against the high-level talent they competed against regularly. The competition was strong and solid and there were some things that he’ll definitely be able to take with him and help him during the high school season.
“Probably being more aggressive. You have to be aggressive in EYBL. Also, getting to know my teammates and being a better leader on the court and playing better defense,” Dixon-Waters said. “It was rough, but it was fun though. I got to meet new people and play against good people. It was good competition and I liked my team.”
And with the Vikings season set to get underway, Dixon-Waters has a few goals in mind. He’s looking forward to this new start on a new team.
“We’re trying to win. I want to get along with my teammates and meet new people,” Dixon-Waters said. “It’s a new school so I got to adjust to it, but it’s been a pretty good transition, it’s fun. I can’t wait to get on the court and start the season.”
