The hard-working 6-foot, 150-pound guard may have been the only 3A prospect in attendance at the event but he wanted to fit right in. Schwenke put everything out on the floor and his hope is that his performance and this upcoming season at Salem Academy will lead to some college basketball playing opportunities.
“It was amazing,” Schwenke said. “There were a lot of great basketball players here so I feel like I was able to show what I got and I felt that I did pretty good. There were a bunch of talented people here so you just had to try to be like you were one of them.”
At the PT40, Schwenke showed some tremendous motor on both ends and scrapped his way to a couple of buckets. The invite comes on the heels of a summer playing with Hoop Salem where he felt he was able to elevate his game. “There were a bunch of good teams out there so there was good competition,” Schwenke said. “I worked on my shooting and my ball-handling and just a bit of everything like layups and control.”
Schwenke – who comes from basketball bloodlines as his mother played collegiately at UC Davis – is hopeful that he too will get the opportunity to play at the next level. He notes that he’s already been hearing from the likes of Lane and Linn-Benton but he’s keeping all of his options open.
A big senior year will no doubt help the cause and he’s looking forward to hitting the court with Salem Academy and a run at the 3A title. “I think we’re going to have a good season,” Schwenke said. “I think we have a big opportunity with a lot of people coming back this year. I feel like we’ll do good.”
