Prospect Spotlight: Antoine Jacks (2021)
Antoine Jacks, a class of 2021 point guard from Good Counsel, was a standout during his recent team’s scrimmage against Sidwell Friends. He was outstanding defensively, where he set the tone throughout the contest.
“Overall we played well,” Jacks told Prep Hoops. “We had a lot of energy. Defense is where we showed that we might be under-sized, but we can still bang with other teams. On offense, we’re all very talented when we have the ball. It’s more about getting the best shot and playing as a team, but we did well at that today too.”
Jacks understands that as one of the most experienced players on his team, it’s his responsibility to lead with his words as well as his actions. It’s also his responsibility to make sure that the ball is distributed well throughout the team.
“As the point guard for the team, I’m guarding full court 94 the whole game,” he stated.
“And when we have to score getting open shots for my teammates. When things get tough, it’s my job to lead the team and bring everybody together.”
The most improved parts of Jacks’ overall game are his offense and conditioning. He understands that the team plays better when he plays confidently and aggressively on the offensive end. Jacks says he’s currently working on his shooting off the dribble and emphasizing being more vocal so he can lead the team effectively.
“I model my game after Tre Jones. I like how he defends and leads his team,” he explained. “Just communicating, day in day out, practice too. Making sure everyone is on the same page, making sure all the new guys are all straight together.”
Radford, Navy, and Yale are among the schools that have reportedly expressed interest in Jacks, who ran with DC Premier during the previous AAU campaign. If he can continue to play at a high-level throughout the upcoming season, many more schools could begin to inquire.
