Winters played with a controlled recklessness that could not be slowed down. He made sure that everyone in attendance knew his name by the end of the day.
The Top 250 Expo became Winters’ introduction to the Wisconsin high school basketball community, mostly because he admitted that his 2019 AAU season with Wisconsin Focus was less than stellar.
“My AAU season wasn’t the best but it was a huge improvement from last year. A lot of my teammates weren’t really dedicated to basketball so we didn’t really improve as a whole. I felt like our team chemistry really improved though so that helped our team grow,” Winters said.
Waukesha North’s 2018-19 season was mediocre, at best. North won just nine games and finished 6th in the Classic Eight Conference. However, despite their sub-par record last year, Winters has high hopes for the 2019-20 season.
“Waukesha North basketball should be really good this year. With our star player Chimere Dike not playing this year each and every player has to step up and perform in a better way. I believe that another senior guard Joey Winship and senior forward Johnny Kelliher are gonna help the team and reach the goals we have set for ourselves.”
Some of Daivon’s personal goals include being a leader and pushing his teammates.
Daivon Winters has a pretty simple goal for his senior season.
“I want to lead my team to a Division 2 state championship,” said the guard.
Every player in basketball has the hope to hoist a championship trophy at the end of the year. Most teams fail to reach the peak of the mountain. With Winters returning, does Waukesha North have a chance to complete the long trek up the mountain that is D2 Wisconsin high school basketball? If the Northstars are to make any significant noise in the Division Two landscape, Winters will need to display his improvements and play his best basketball.
