Our series will take a look at the best teams in the state for each class with our rankings. Starting at #50 and going to #1, we will look at each class ranking across all classes starting now with #7.
1A #7: Indianapolis Tindley
Tindley is under new direction this year with Omar Dillard taking the reigns but also an injection of young talent with Jayden and Jeffery Pinkston. Jayden looks like one of the best incoming freshman in the state and in 1A he could have a very similar impact like former Tindley and now Purdue standout, Eric Hunter. Add in the pieces already on the roster in Christian DaCosta and Michael Robertson and you have a great start for a 1A program. While they will be young, this could be a team that is able to be a problem from Day 1.
2A #7: Southridge
Southridge was one of the teams to really benefit from realignment as they dropped from 3A to 2A and now sit in a position to make a great run this year. They have a strong roster led by Junior standout Colson Montgomery. They also have guys like Garrett Voegerl, Sam Sermersheim, Carter Whitehead, and Kaden Neukam coming back. Colson averaged 21.1 points and 6.6 rebounds last year so he will be able to bring that to the table. Also, their Sectional is now much, much easier with really only Mater Dei and Forest Park as the two teams to worry about at the beginning of the year.
3A #7: Bishop Dwenger
Bishop Dwenger has been going back and forth from 3A to 4A for a while and is now back at 3A for a season when there isn’t a ton of talent in the northern half of the state in that class. So, coming off a middling year going 12-11, Dwenger will look to make a jump back up to the top of the standings. Brenden Lytle returns to lead this team on the point. Add in sohpomore Owen Shively to help with their post game and you have the starting pieces to build around. They will be replacing a ton of talent here but Dwenger reloads every single year and even in year’s when they are not that great, they can make runs in the postseason.
4A #7: Homestead
In 4A, Homestead could be the sleeper team to watch this year. Led by a ton of talent in Luke Goode, Zak Krueger, and Alec Grinsfelder, they should be among the most stacked teams in the state. Quinn Harmon and Cole Straussburger should help in the backcourt with Krueger with Jake Archbold giving some toughness on the wing with Goode. They have a ton of size and players that have a ton of minutes over the last few years. Their schedule isn’t for the lighthearted but their Sectional is pretty light. Expectations are this could be a big year with State Title hopes.
