Our series will take a look at the best teams in the state for each class with our rankings. Starting at #50 and going to #1, we will look at each class ranking across all classes starting now with #6.
1A #6: Bloomfield
The Panthers will be heading into this year off a great 20-8, Regional Championship season. They may have lost some good outgoing seniors but they bring in a new head coach, J.B. Neil, who brings in his winning mentality into the program. The team will likely be led by great shooting combo guard, senior Turner Royal. A really good JV squad led by point guard Chris Royal will also be brought up to the varsity level. Look for breakout seasons from Noah Cumming and Luke Oliphant. Even with a new head coach, this team likes to play to their strengths. Expect them to have the same or better record and go on another great post-season run.
2A #6: Paoli
The Rams are coming off a great 23-4, Sectional Championship season. All eyes for the Rams will be locked on extremely tough-minded prospect, junior power forward Brett Bosley. Bosley will be looking to have a monster junior season and will have great talent around him like Aron Busick, Hobie Bobbitt, and Zane Anderson. Because of this team’s size, opposing teams will have tough matchup problems. This year’s squad will be looking to prove that last season’s lackluster post-season run was a fluke. Expect Paoli to be one of the most dominate teams in 2A and rack up more than just a Sectional Championship.
3A #6: South Bend St. Joseph
The Indians are coming off a not-so-great 12-10 season. This year’s team will be led by a pair of great junior prospects, center Adam O’Dell and small forward Jack Futa. Expect a breakout season from both point guard Cole Hatkevich and power forward Jakob O’Dell. This is a talented team from top-to-bottom. Coach Mark Johnson will have a much better team than last year’s mediocre squad. They should have a competitive schedule but expect them to win most games fairly easily and expand their season even more come post-season.
4A #6: Brownsburg
The Bulldogs heading into this new season coming off a great 17-7 record but with a tough Sectional loss to Plainfield to go with that. The team that Brownsburg has this season is just loaded with talent. The most important player for them is a top 2021 small forward prospect, Pierce Thomas. Thomas will have a great amount of help with prospects like Malek Edmonds, Luke Laey, and J.J. Louden. Not very many teams in the state will have this much talent on a varsity roster. Look for this year’s team to continue their winning ways and look to win their first State Championship since 2008.
