Our series will take a look at the best teams in the state for each class with our rankings. Starting at #50 and going to #1, we will look at each class ranking across all classes starting now with #13.
1A #13: Loogootee
The Lions will be coming off a poor record of 9-15 heading into the 2019-20 season. The good news for this squad is that they return a very experienced, varsity roster. This team will be led by power forward Silas Bauer. Bauer has a really good chance to be a great defender along with his excellent offensive play. Jalen Wildman, Landon Harder, and Levi Pendly are all poised for a breakout season. Look for incoming freshman Peyton Bledsoe to be an impact guy as well. This team has the potential to be one of the best defensive teams in the state. Expect them to give Barr-Reeve a tough match-up come Sectional.
2A #13: Churubusco
The Eagles are coming off a .500 record of 12-12 and return a top scorer and other good talent heading into this season. The top scorer returning is play making guard that can score, Jackson Paul (17.9 ppg, 5.4 rpg). Look for guards Lake Mcclure (8.2 ppg) and Gage Kelly (6.5 ppg) to step-up and have breakout seasons. They also have incoming transfer Landen Jordan from Concordia who will give them some size. This is one of the smaller teams in 2A but plays quick and tough. Come Sectional time, along with Central Noble, expect the Eagles to be a favorite to play in Regional.
3A #13: Mishawaka Marian
The Knights are coming off a fantastic 20-4 season and return their top two scorers. This team will be led by Kaleo Kakalia, Latrell Franklin, and Jerry Bracey. Look for a breakout season from guard Jerry Bracey. The loss of Jaden Ivey hurts but there is still a ton of talent on this roster. This team has a star with good pieces around him. This squad could go on a deep post-season run if they can survive a competitive Sectional. But regardless of the Sectional outcome, expect another dominant regular season.
4A #13: Cathedral
After coming off a great 18-6 season, the Fighting Irish will lose a heavy outgoing senior class but return a loaded amount of talent. The leaders of this team will be solid duo, point guard Tayshawn Comer and shooting guard Vincent Brady. Along with the leaders, expect breakout seasons for power forward Peter Moe and power forward Harrison Fagg. Incoming freshman Xavier Booker could be a difference maker right away at 6’8. The talent this team has coming back is incredible. The Cathedral Fighting Irish are on track to have an incredible season.
